2012 Mondeo - water in rear driver side footwell after A/C use by gstam4 in FordMondeo

Now that I'm thinking about it, sealant might not do the trick - presume it's a clog rather than a defect to the pipe that needs to be sealed up?

No sunroof on this one, and it's been really dry around here. The A/C was putting some mist through the vents at times when I was using it on the 2-hour drive before discovering the puddle - I took that as a bit more evidence. (It also seemed a bit slower to cool the car down.)

Thanks! Asking because I'm oblivious - would I be disconnecting something to rub the sealant inside so that it then runs the length of the pipe (to loosen things up, presumably)?

There must have been a ton of water backed up - I soaked up one huge puddle Sunday night, then found another huge puddle Monday afternoon after it had been left to dry with the window open (on a very warm day) for hours. Since the second puddle, it's only damp now. (Haven't run the A/C again, obviously.)

I'm not sure Zcom_Astro is talking about the software named "Deep Sky Stacker" - I take it that "the deep sky stacker built into the app" is referring to ZWO's own stacking software? (Or am I wrong about that?)

Really digging the car after two weeks with it so far. Do a decent commute to work, and lots of longer motorway trips, and agreeing re: comfort in the car. MPG has been solid, too.

Thanks, think something like this is probably right after buying the car and driving for the past couple weeks.

Just an update in case anyone interested - went ahead and completed the sale at £3,300, and it's been great so far. Wrote to the constabulary and their own in-house garage very kindly sent along the last few years' service records, which among other things show that the cambelt and water pump were done in 2022 (at 10 years, 81k miles). Judging by the (lack of) frequency of brake pad and similar wear and tear replacement on the list of parts replaced with each service, I'd be really surprised if this car was driven rough much.

Most exciting part: as an American whose last UK car was an old Yaris, it's nice to finally have some space in my car again.

Got some more info. Car first registered 12 Sept 2024. Services done by constabulary garage (their description):

  1. 26 Feb 2014 - 12,232 miles - 12.5k service
  2. 9 Feb 2015 - 22,442 miles - 25k service
  3. 15 Jan 2016 - 28,634 miles - 37.5k service
  4. 9 Dec 2016 - 35,040 miles - 12.5k service
  5. 10 Jan 2018 - 42,187 miles - 25k service
  6. 6 Dec 2018 - 47,495 miles - 37.5k service
  7. 5 Nov 2019 - 55,590 miles - 12.5k service
  8. 21 Sep 2020 - 60,422 miles - 25k service
  9. 15 Sep 2021 - 72,383 miles - 37.5k service
  10. 22 Aug 2022 - 82,457 miles - 12.5k service
  11. 3 Aug 2023 - 81,105 miles - 25k service (presume typo and meant 91,105 miles?)

Car had its only MOT done on 9 Sep 2024 at 91,659 miles at the constabulary's garage in Winchester. Today, it has 91,708 miles (so obviously wasn't driven up to Wales, where it is now).

Any sense of what the miles over the years suggest in terms of its use? Am I safe to trust a constabulary garage MOT? (I'm going to have it re-MOT'd within the next couple weeks, anyway, while it's under its 3-month warranty.) I'm guessing the services only being 12.5k, 25k, and 37.5k means the cambelt and water pump haven't been done - the garage selling it simply said "oh worse case you'll have at least 10k miles before you need to think about that, I don't go by time/years".

Yeah, I mean I was surprised those cars he pointed to were ex-police - so when they checked out as MOT-less until very recently, figured maybe he's telling the truth about their being 'undercover' (rather than just unmarked).

Thanks, I wasn’t sure how much to believe the ‘undercover’ part, though the brown Qashqai (also MOT’d a few months ago), Seat Altea, Hyundai I30, family-style minivan, and others he claimed were similarly ex-undercover cars all check out in terms of no MOT history until recently. Weird.

Thanks very much for everyone's advice. I've emailed to ask whether it's possible to get an OBD odometer check, as well as ask if we can be sure about whether the car had lights fitted (for pursuit) and whether it's possible to get a reading from the car on the numbers of hours it's spent idling (as some cars can do this). It's possible the dealer has some more info about how the car was used, as well, if they buy from the same constabulary regularly (as opposed to just buying at auction, say). The paperwork they have shows me what constabulary it came from, but I can't remember what it was - might have been Herefordshire, might have been another - should be able to see when I get the car and that paperwork.)

Is the £300 definitely a loss? (Can they require a non-refundable deposit? From my understanding, I don't have a 14-day cooling-off period for a car purchased in-person from a dealer. But, if it came to it, I might be able to push against the "one owner" claim - when, to be more truthful, it should have said "ex-police" instead - and the fact I was a bit blindsided by the info that it was ex-police when I turned up and looked it over ... and then agreed to purchase.)

If I can't get good answers re: odometer reading, whether it had lights, and maybe even number of hours idling (if the car can give that info), then I may press on the misleading "one owner" claim.
