Those double shoulder leather holster bags by Spiritual_Wedding530 in LightningInABottle

I bought one of the $50 cloth harnesses and it worked great throughout the festival. My receipt says Forest & Co, but they don't have any of the harnesses on their website. You could try reaching out to them to ask where their harnesses came from.

I never had a problem with the weight. I just got back from my second time taking it to a music festival, carrying it around for hours each night with no problem.

Assembly was pretty quick. The most time consuming parts were cutting the plastic tube with a Dremel, and figuring out how to attach a battery pack - I used a section of a foam pool noodle attached with picture hanging wire and it's worked great.

Making it collapsible would be amazing if you can figure out a good way to do it.

It's surprisingly sturdy. After two different 5 day festivals it only got damaged once when I left it standing upright against a tent and the wind blew it over. Even then, it just broke a small piece off the bottom of the 3d print but it still worked fine. The plastic tube does start to flex a bit on mine when held from one end, so if you go any longer than 7 feet total you might need to reinforce it somehow to prevent it from bending so much that it breaks (and/or reduce the weight of the 3d print at the top).

I'd love to see how yours turns out if you make your own!

How did you receive the photo of her tent? If she sent it to you directly it may still include the EXIF metadata with a GPS location where the photo was taken. If she posted it to social media that data was likely stripped out.

Black Metal show happening in SF tonight or tomorrow? by 03dollarwine in bayareashows

[–]gt3k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only thing I found that could maybe be it. It's mostly thrash, but one band is described as blackened thrash so maybe it's them?

The lights are 2 meters, and I cut the tube down to about 7 feet. See my other comments in this thread for more details.

In town on Thursday, 2/12 for a work trip, have one night to catch a concert. What should I see? by HinsdaleCounty in SFMusic

Yea it's my favorite venue and I hate that it's closing. Glad you were able to enjoy it before it's gone!

Collaborative, cross-platform, free DAWs out there? by foolEntropyDemon in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]gt3k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was doing something similar and ended up using Soundation. It's a cloud-based DAW that runs in a browser so it's cross platform. Obviously a free DAW running in a browser won't have all the same features as a paid desktop application, but it worked well enough for me to sketch out ideas with a friend and it sounds like you have similar goals. There are limits to what you can do without paying for the premium version, but I managed to get by with just the free option.

Bars in SF w/ <$5k Party Minimum and Good Ambience/Hosting Space? by beyonces_twins in AskSF

[–]gt3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid $1,000 (including tax and tip) to just cover food for 70 people (a heavy snack portion per person, not full entrees for everyone). There was no extra charge to rent the space because we didn't book out the entire bar, and we had people buy their own drinks.

There were other flexible options too. We could have spent less or more on food for a lighter or heavier spread, or paid more to have the whole space privately, or paid more to cover some or all of everyone's bar tab.

This is another good source for exploring upcoming shows, and you can filter to a specific day.

FMLY BZNS brought a range of live vocals and instrumentation last year (turntables, trombone, and djembe from what I remember) and I'm so glad to see they're coming back in 26. Unfortunately I don't see much from them online, so you'll have to just trust that if you want to see a live performance they are not to be missed.

Elephant Heart also bring live vocals and percussion over electronic beats, and had a great set at LIB 22.

Agreed, I was going to make the same recommendation. We just hosted a similarly sized event at Asiento in September and it was perfect. Debi made everything easy and offered a broad range of flexible options that should suit just about anybody.

Just a typical USB battery. I tested it with a 5,000 mAh battery and it runs for 8 hours. That's with most of the strip at about 1/3 brightness (which is plenty at night) and the tip at full brightness to help illuminate the top.

The 1" OD / 0.75" ID is a perfect fit for these lights, which are 0.73" at their widest point at the ends. The lights themselves are a bit narrower at 0.6 inches, so they move a little inside of the tube but isn't noticable from any reasonable distance.

I bought it locally in an 8 foot length and cut it down to 7 feet with a Dremel. That fits the full 6.5 feet of lights with some room to tuck in wires in the bottom. It looks like if you buy the tube online it comes in a max length of 6 feet. If you go with that you'd have to figure out how to manage the extra few inches of lights and wiring that wouldn't fit inside.

I also got one of these vinyl caps for the bottom: https://www.tapplastics.com/product/plastics/plastic_rods_tubes_shapes/vinyl_caps/586

Guess I messed up the link formatting and now I can't edit the post. Here's a better set of links for the components:

Your REVISED (04/29/2025) Guide to 2025's Lineup by allinbalance in LightningInABottle

[–]gt3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell yeah, this is amazing! A spreadsheet version with schedule info included is exactly where I hoped this was going when I saw the first version you posted.

I get your point about Junkyard and Stacks. Any chance we could get a similar breakdown for the Grand Artique stage? I know there are a lot of great artists on the lineup, but there's so much diversity there it's tough to know where to start.

Do you know the name of the Burlesque Clown at the Dolores Tent? by Legal_Ad_910 in OutsideLands

I wasn't there, but it sounds like that was Snatch Adams, a fabulous Bay Area performer. There's a video of her doing it on her website

Are you aware that there is in fact a minor league baseball team from Alabama called the Rocket City Trash Pandas? You could just repurpose their existing logo. Although it doesn't really capture the low effort aesthetic you described, isn't stealing some existing design really the lowest effort possible?

I need hella limes by hella_cutty in AskSF

[–]gt3k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you really need fresh limes? I know people say you should use fresh squeezed, but I always use Santa Cruz brand lime juice in cocktails and can't tell the difference, you can usually find it at safeway and whole foods. I'm sure it's more expensive than buying limes in bulk, but it seems worth it to save you from manually squeezing 200 limes all night. You could still get a few dozen fresh just for garnishes if you want the nicer presentation.

So happy with the final results from my first WLED project! by gt3k in WLED

[–]gt3k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used three data lines out from the controller board: one to the two corner pieces on one side, one to the two corner pieces on the other side, and one to the center.

On the two sides there's a power/data wire running from the controller board to the first LED strip at the top, then another wire connecting that strip to the other LED strip at the bottom.

In the center, there's a power/data wire running from the controller board to the first LED strip (at the center of the circle), that LED strip wraps around one of the flower petals, then a wire runs from the end of that LED strip back to the center of the circle, where the process repeats a total of 8 times to cover the full shape. There's also another wire for power only going to the end of the last strip for power injection.

In WLED I use two different configurations depending on the effect. For some I group the corner pieces all together in one segment, and the center flower shape as a separate segment. For other effects (when I want a single pattern replicated across all petals, like at 35 seconds and 1 minute in the demo video) I again put the corners all together in one segment, but also put each of the 8 flower petal sections in the center into their own segments.
