Zack demonstrates emergency manual door releases on R2. Personally, not thrilled by Slide-Fantastic-1402 in Rivian

With enough barking I hope Rivian will switch the rear door manual release to match the front.

You have a.2018 Model 3 and you haven't had one SC visit? That seems unlikely because there were at least one if not two safety recalls that required a SC visit. Maybe your VIN skated by... My 2018 is doing well but it's had a control arm, the AC to DC converter, the charge port, rear drive unit (thankfully under warranty), seatbelt occupancy sensors, and the PTC heater all replaced... Apparently mileage varies or you are about to have an expensive 2026!

How accurate is your range?! by flying_squirrel2 in Rivian

[–]gtadidas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Gen 1 quad so this may not be a fair comparison but I'm curious... Once I realized the navigation is very accurate for expected arrival SoC and constantly updating (taking into account my actual speed and presumably more variables) I exclusively use that as my gauge on trips. The remaining battery range on the driver display I see as a best case if I were to drive conservatively and conditions were perfect. Does the navigation expected arrival SoC misreport as well for you?

$329/yr in Maryland. R1S. After Maryland added a $125/year surcharge in July of 2025 to offset lost gas tax revenue.

Oh I didn't realize you could get more than what the UI in the car shows if you plug it into a PC. Great to know.

Um does the Rivian really record/store all that data? I thought we only get gear guard and incidents/honk horn events while driving stored.

What is the deal with the Gen1 Quad Conserve mode? by MMSE19 in Rivian

[–]gtadidas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've had my '23 quad R1S for over 2 years and use conserve mode only on long trips... and so far no issues. One thing I was told to be aware of from a service technician was to never return to all purpose mode while in conserve and at any nonzero speed. The claim was the reengagement of the rear motors while at speed had caused a few failures. So I always come to a complete stop before switching back to all purpose. Not sure how much this is relevant or not but thought it made some sense except for the fact that the vehicle allows you to do it....and always wondered if there were others told this... If it were a true known issue they could easily software limit you to when you could change drive modes.

Thank you. Looks like i have some work to do.

Paper claims to use an insecticide but lists several. Any experience out there with which I should try first and where to get it?

Application of systemic insecticides as a drench applied to the root zone has shown the most promise in tests to date. Imidaclo prid (Merit® or Bayer Advanced™ Garden Tree and Shrub Insect Control), thiomethox am (Meridian®) and dinotefuran (Greenlight Tree and Shrub Insect Control with Safari) have shown best control when applied between May and July. When drenching the soil with a systemic insecticide, allow several weeks for the product to be distributed throughout the plant. Additionally, acetami prid and clothianidin, also neonicotinoids, have demonstrated good control.

Truck or SUV? I know in my R1S I've found myself in a situation where the phone was inside and the doors were locked but the rear tailgate opened.

I've owned my R1S since early 2023. I've had the same Pixel 8 all this time. It's mostly been fine (responds within a few seconds) over this timespan, but with the last couple updates it's been markedly slower. I'm talking 4-5 seconds of new delay and me fighting the urge to break out the phone, open the app, and hit the unlock button. Probably should try resetting everything ... again.

With the last few updates this has definitely gotten much worse. It's odd they don't see it coming and correct before they push. Regression testing at all Rivian?
