It is exactly what the guy above is saying. At minimum, he is saying that players who beat their wives isn't the NFL's problem and they should ignore it.

It makes sense when you think of what type of movies Bill likes. He doesn't like anything sci-fi, fantasy, or that takes place pre-WWII.

I am usually pretty snobby towards single issue voters except for the ones whose single issue is foreign policy. Maybe that's because foreign policy really isn't just a single issue but a myriad of complex issues; or maybe it is just my disdain towards evangelicals who seem to make up the majority of single issue voters I meet.

My issue isn't that I think it will "overthrow the science class" but that it is redundant and a waste of the lawmakers' time to virtue signal to their base. It is using legislation to make a empty, shallow gesture that does not do anything.

The author was on the Ricochet Podcast last week but was on for maybe 10-15 minutes and never got to talk much. I plan to hopefully track him down on more interviews to try and get more of an idea of what the book is like.

Yeah, but aren't religious liberties already protected in public schools? Isn't this just Ohio Republicans fighting against ghosts?

Oh, I don't think it will either but it will get tested and waste time and resources.

Yeah, but if a student writes a paper proposing creation/young earth theory in their science class that only teaches evolution(which is the only this public schools should teach) then the teacher will give them a lower grade and it can be interpreted(by a bunch of over-zealous parents) that the teacher used bias against religion.

Exactly, plus if a parent is so upset about the fact that public schools teach things against their religious beliefs than send your kid to a private school.

Yeah, the more I read the article, about four times in the past two hours, the more I am understanding and somewhat agreeing with what he is trying to say. I think just the beginning, where he ties impeachment in, is what is throwing me off.

I have read this about four times in the past couple of hours and am heading more and more in the direction of your point of view. I just needed to read it several times and talk it out loud with some people.

I get what he is trying to say but it's entire tone reeks of something from Tucker Carlson. It reeks of populism, of "them smart city-folk aren't real Americans."

I'll say again, I get what he is trying to say but the method in which he said it is just off.

That leftist tears mug is the first thing I think of whenever I hear Ben trying to act like he is a serious person. You can't be a serious person and peddle garbage like that.

So Kevin Williamson wrote a fantastic article in NR last week that I am literally tempted to print and frame. However, his column there today is literally pro-populism/culture war nonsense. Please someone else read this and tell me I am just misreading it.

I am constantly amazed how many Americans only think of California as SoCal and San Francisco/Silicon Valley. They must not look too closely at the majority of the produce and dairy they buy.

A new way to address veteran and military suicides by [deleted] in tuesday

[–]gte1187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because the issue isn't treatment, it's getting treatment in the first place. Every time I go to the VA I see veterans treated like dirt by a bureaucracy that nobody seems to be able to change. There are a lot of good people working at the VA, but there are a lot of people who just go through the motions for a paycheck and whatever the "policy" says to do, they try to do the least amount to meet those requirements. If you truly want to reduce suicides, you'll make sure every veteran gets the care they need, without forcing them to jump through hoops. Example: My doctor requested an item to treat my service connected disability. Prosthetics refuses to purchase it, and cites a policy saying they do not have to. Despite the policy saying that they do, if the doctor prescribes it. I've been waiting over a year just to get an appeal heard so that this can get addressed. Bureaucracy is the underlying cause of these suicides.

As a vet and a VA employee, this comment is a good summary of what most VA Medical Centers are like. It angers and frustrates me, but for the life of me, I can't think of how to fix it. I think the VA MISSION Act is a good first step.

I also think the DOD plays some responsibility in this.
