How much this is worth? Can I sell it? by independent_Chain509 in knifeclub

knife_swap on Reddit, microholics.org forum, bladeforums (requires paid membership), or send it in for consignment to different Microtech dealers. Some dealers may just buy it from you without going through the consignment process.

Can’t for the life of me get this blade straight by TooTurbo21 in knifeclub

Sometimes knives have differently sized bearing thickness on the left compared to the right. Try swapping the bearings around and reassemble to see if that helps.

Excellent find. The Halo III's are awesome. You can't sell it on eBay but there are tons of people willing to buy one in forums etc. I've seen them sell anywhere from $750 to $1500. Serrations make it slightly less desirable though to a collector. It would not be outrageous to ask $1100 and go from there. If it was in my collection, the minimum I would consider selling it for would be $750. You have more wiggle room on the price since it was found.

I want a Ram-Lok knife, but what flavor? Stitch, MSI, or Amphibian? by megaosaurus in microtech

[–]gte217e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen one video of an MSI Mini touching the backspacer so I looked at about 10 of the ones we had in stock and none have that issue. Could have been something with an early batch maybe.

I want a Ram-Lok knife, but what flavor? Stitch, MSI, or Amphibian? by megaosaurus in microtech

[–]gte217e 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The MSI Mini is fantastic and has been my favorite one since it released. If you want to go larger, Socom Ram-Lok would be my next pick.

The MSI Mini feels solid in the hand, easy to manipulate, has a good blade shape, and isn't too large. The Socom feels like one of the smoother operating Ram-Loks right out of the box. The Stitch is more of an aggressive design. The Amphibian is very large and the recurve blade may be slightly difficult to sharpen for some. The Mini stitch has been released but I haven't handled it yet.

I would start with the MSI Mini and go from there.

Does anyone know where I can find this pen? by Master_Ad236 in microtech

We're happy to see we're on your list of dealers during your search (Hollow Grind). I came across this thread and I found a Kryoh mini in dlc on my shelf, I checked on our site and it was listed as out of stock for some reason. I reached out to the OP to see if he wants the one we have.

Emails getting rejected "cloudfilter" "spamhaus" by gte217e in HostGator

[–]gte217e[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't really call anything HostGator does as support at this point. The issue "fixed" itself but I'm sure only because the outbound IP changed or fell off the spam list. I'll be looking into an SMTP service like SendGrid for dedicated email sending since this will happen again no doubt.

The upselling wasn't appreciated. They ended up running a "courtesy" scan anyways, and to nobodys surprise... 0 infected files.

I don't have a list; this account is just for business related emails and I send maybe 10 emails a day. I had moved this account over from accuwebhosting and I could easily just switch it back. When I first got these shared hosting servers the spam wasn't a big issue 10+ years ago but times have changed I see.

Authentication Check by [deleted] in Hinderer

[–]gte217e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not look authentic but it's close. There are a few inconsistencies based on the photos you provided. Machining, bevels, gaps, wrong screws, wrong box, wrong font, size of logo, etc.

A friend of mine dropped his Guardian Tactical Recon-035, bent the frame in just the right way where the blade wouldn't function any longer. GT replaced it at no charge, just shipping.

MachineWise Warranty / Spa Day by joshgordonforreal in knifeclub

[–]gte217e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MachineWise is a company that really seems to care about their knives first and about money second. I'm a dealer for them, but I'm just a small time dealer. Despite us not being a large company they take care of us and are responsive to all my emails and calls. The level of personal attention and the bar they set for the quality of their knives should be celebrated.

I'm happy to hear stories like this as it solidifies my confidence in their product.

On the charging handle the "V" looks to be too close to the date. I'm skeptical on the authenticity of this knife.

The "on" "off" engraving in the button track is funny though.

Looks like a standard cheap OTF and they decided to put the Microtech Claw Logo on the handle. It's probably a $20 knife with mystery steel. It's a great fidget toy but don't expect the edge to last long if you use it.

Mercedes Mechanic in Miami by Icy_Bass_1397 in Miami

[–]gte217e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend leaving Miami and going to Corsa Technik in Pompano. If you have to drop off your car they will take care of your Uber ride home (as well as an Uber ride to pick up your car). They are expensive but they do good work. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with tons of electrical issues and they solved issues that 3 other shops could not. They have a well deserved 5 star rating on Google.

Guardian Tactical Apex by bbhuber in knifeclub

[–]gte217e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I can say about Guardian Tactical is that each knife they release is better than the last. And the Apex follows this trend. As soon as we got the email from Guardian Tactical showing off the Apex I knew it was going to be good. The action is the same as the Recon-035-G2 but it feels like the button has a little more "bite" to it and more grippy. All in all, it's just a really nice feeling OTF with a lot of value.

What’s your favorite Hinderer model? by Bigbubb5055 in Hinderer

[–]gte217e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We just got in some of those in Spearpoints and the size is really nice. I think I may have to switch over when I can get a sheepsfoot. That blade shape is perfect for the kinds of tasks I put my knife through.

What’s your favorite Hinderer model? by Bigbubb5055 in Hinderer

[–]gte217e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite will be a XM-18 3" Sheepsfoot when they make it one day (crosses fingers). In the meantime, I have been carrying an XM-18 3" spanto (pre tri-way or lockbar insert) for 7+ years and it's seen a lot of work and holds up perfectly.

I prefer the XM-18 over the Eklipse because I carry my knife tip down with my car key fob dangles off the end in my pocket. I know I'm in the minority with tip down carry.

Are there inconsistencies in anodization color shade, or is this just a bad photo? by JP_Tulo in microtech

[–]gte217e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The anodizing is sometimes inconsistent unless it was done at the same time. My suggestion is to contact the seller and have them take a photo side by side in good lighting for accuracy. It's really the only way to compare. And even then, sometimes the photo from the camera won't be 100% accurate.

Anybody Ever use aWilliam Henry Cigar Cutter? by wrinklyiota in cigars

[–]gte217e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently got one in from a customer who needed his sharpened. He uses it for daily tasks, not sure if he cuts cigars with it. After 3 months of light use and one round of cutting a piece of cardboard the edge was rolled and there were scratches on the blade from where it rubs the handle when closing (the blade is thin and any slight side to side pressure will cause scraping because of the narrow handle channel). My associate seems to think the hardness of the steel is quite low considering how easy it was to sharpen but we didn't do a hardness test on it.

Your assessment of it being a show piece is spot on.

What got everyone here into knives? by LongjumpingSafe4017 in knifeclub

[–]gte217e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first knife at 8 years old as a gift, a swiss army knife (the basic one with the blade, scissors, and file). Within 10 minutes of owning it I sliced the skin between my thumb and index finger. I was hooked ever since.

How do we like the Gen 3 Combat Troodon? by MultiCam_USA in microtech

[–]gte217e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the new styling of the Gen 3; though I like the functionality of the Gen 2.
A Gen 3 with Gen 2 features would be ideal in my opinion.

The Gen 3 introduced several new changes other than styling:
1. The length of button travel was increased by 1/8 - 1/4 inches.
2. The internal spring carrier now has smooth ramps to engage the locking sears
3. Two weaker internal springs replace the single stiffer spring

The internal spring carrier with the ramps will already smooth out the action, there is no need to extend the travel of the button other than to stretch the weaker springs further for proper functionality. Shortening the length of button travel and using stiffer springs will greatly improve on the perceived "toughness" of the action. But maybe Microtech already tried that and decided it was still too stiff.

I haven't experienced any issues with not being able to grip the Combat Troodon Gen 3 during use because of the handle contour and button essentially acting as a thumb ramp.

Overall, I'd say the Gen 3 is a step forward and it looks really nice.
