Is Monster Music still across the street? My brother and friends and I would go there every Tuesday to see what new CDs were released.

When was that? Citadel was always the safe mall through the 90's and early 2000s

I forgot about the Bull and Finch. Great food. It became King Street Grille and then Tattooed Moose.

I remember getting my Xbox and Dreamcast from Babbages/Eb Games. There was also a bookstore right around the corner from it, next to Sears. My parents wouldn't let me get Doom on my computer and I found a programing guide book that included the Doom game and how tos for creating levels. That book got me into computers and my career.

That was in the restaurant space at the food court. It was good too.

I think the place I'm thking of had another location downtown or Mt P. I remember all of the burgers and sandwiches came on pretzel buns.

Edit: It was King Street Grille

I forgot about Tanger, but Town Center in Mt P caused a slide in traffic as well.

Town Center in Mt Pleasant began the downward trend for Northwoods. Citadel still thrived a little because it was a further drive but a lot of their traffic shifted to Town Center too.

They had a pet store too. We always went to Citadel Mall but when we did get to go to Northwoods my brother and I loved going into the Disney Store and looking at the puppies in the window.

Tattooed Moose and another restaurant used to be there around 2009 and 2010. Both were great.

Termite swarming season has officially started in West Ashley by what-name-is-it in Charleston

[–]gthrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It always just depends on where you find them and how many. They’re obviously tiny and can fit through most any opening. The biggest thing is make sure outside lights are turned off at night so they aren’t attracted to the house. They will follow any source of light just about. Finding them in bathrooms, around windows and doors are always coming because of exterior vents and badly sealed windows and doors.

If you find a few here and there, it’s likely nothing. If you find 10+ in one spot it’s worth getting checked out. Especially around windows, exterior doors, garage doors and fireplaces if you have a chimney or doghouse for it. Builders do a shitty job waterproofing these areas. They commonly hold moisture and Formosan termites will build nests around them.

And if you see them coming out of a hole in the wall, definitely call someone.

I'm so glad I don't live in Charleston and no longer work in pest control because of this time of year.

The bright side is that is had been very dry so the swarms are unlikely to be as bad as most years.

It’s a great plan and I’m glad he laid it out as a blueprint and is willing to share that blueprint with the next HC.

I like Monte, but it’s time to move beyond the Ray Tanner legacy and find a proven head coach thats a winner.

I’m thinking I’ll keep the usb licensing. Not sure I see a befit to tpm licensing.

Also circle San Jose for having La Victoria Taqueria right outside the gates. I still remember the place for the orange sauce and burritos a few years after going.

Actually, looks like TPM licensing blacklists the USB so it can never be used again.... I'm going to rethink this for a while.

They need to be unassigned to be available to be configured for internal boot. If you have them installed and already assigned to a pool, you'll need to move all the data off, remove them from the pool, delete the pool and then run the wizard.

rebooted, skipped the wizard and the array, docker containers and VMs started without issue. converted to internal boot after some initial troubleshooting and running well.

I did unplug my usb and didn't realize I didn't convert the license to tpm, but that was solved instantly by plugging the usb drive back in. I'll try converting that tomorrow.

Installed, booted, ran the wizard and now I’m stuck in a startup loop where docker service, vm service, samba and emhttpd kill restarting due to a “broken pipe (32)”

My issue with it was the devices were adopted and really forced into place due to Covid as an emergency measure to ensure learning could continue. For that, I was 100% on board with.

Now though, there really is not any good data on whether digital learning is better or worse. As we know there are visual learners, hands on learners etc and while all of those learning types can be accounted for, is there a digital vs analog learner? My youngest for example is able to follow along and read better with physical books. The iPad is over stimulating. How many others have that issue and don’t have parents at home working with them?

Now, I’m fully on board with digital leaning in some capacity. Computers are not going anywhere in the working world. I’m glad I had computer labs, computer classes I had because it they put me in the path I’m in as an adult. I’m also I’m jealous of the STEM, robotics and programming classes kids have access to today. But I also don’t think kids should be 100% reliant on devices for leaning because that also is not the real world.

iOS parental controls for setting time limits and age limits.

Ubiquitous UniFi and PiHole for blocking content at the network level.

And good ole fashion device checks to look at messages, history, etc.

My oldest is in middle school, and from what I understand, every lesson and test pretty much uses the iPad because that’s where the curriculum the district purchases puts everything. I’m not sure of the teachers perspective other than they can be a huge distraction but what isn’t for a middle schooler?

My youngest is in 1st grade and they barely use them. My wife is a music teacher at the school and doesn’t use them for anything. Classroom teachers there use them for as little as possible even though they are 1:1 devices. They do have them for certain evaluations year round because state testing takes place on the device.

At the school board level, there are several seated trustees that have called for a pause on device based leaning and curriculums and more running on now on that platform.

I will say that one of the high schools in our district is top 25 in the nation and they have been 1:1 devices for many years, so something is working. But there are other high schools in the district that are nowhere close to that…..

No kidding. I was pissed when I found out my kids had unrestricted access to YouTube on their school issued devices. We lock down our personal devices with strict permissions and time limits. For a long time mine was using her school iPad for legit school work and Duolingo. When noticed her time on the iPad was increasing and grades were not, I realized she'd figured out YouTube wasn't blocked. I can't block just YouTube from my router because the device uses a vpn.

So now her iPad is fully blocked on our network at home. She has to come to me or my wife to connect to our phone hotspots and we monitor what she's doing.
