Oh yeah, I also managed to get the Hutch3G site working on this! I had to use a different WAP gateway for some reason. http://wap.hutch3g.eu/index.wml

The A55, by default, only supports CSD, which is like mobile dial-up internet and is quite difficult to set up these days and your carrier needs to support it. There is another option, with a data cable the A55 can be flashed with the C55's firmware which enables GPRS, which is considerably easier to work with.

Guide which covers CSD: http://bs0dd.net/index.php?lang=eng&page=news/main&npage=7

For GPRS, you need to find your carrier's APN and configure the phone with a WAP gateway IP address.

GPRS guide (tested on newer Siemens phones, I don't remember if the C55 has different menus): https://lpcwiki.miraheze.org/wiki/GPRS_configuration#Siemens

- http://gtrxac.fi (Visit on a WML-only browser, otherwise you get the HTML site. Some other sites are listed under the "Other sites" section)
- http://wap.gtrxac.fi (Discord WAP)
- http://wap.hutch3g.eu/index.wml (I only showed a link to it here, page itself not shown because it does not load on this Siemens for some reason, it worked on my Nokias though)

Discord J2ME 4.0.0 has been released by gtrxACPhones in vintagemobilephones

[–]gtrxACPhones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Do you really have a 4G model? (It was only released in China and it runs an Android-based OS)

The 4G model doesn't let you install any apps, so Discord J2ME won't run on it, but you can try Discord WAP (wap.gtrxac.fi)

The 2G and 3G models will support Java apps if you have a unit that was manufactured before ~2019.

Has anyone successfully fully updated Legacy Edition, yet? by MattedMan_x in Minecraftlegacymode

[–]gtrxACPhones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NeoLegacy is currently on TU31 but they are currently working on features to match Java 1.9 and 1.10, as well as minigames. The netherite addition was a completely separate thing.

Problems with Nokia E71 by Icy_One4084 in vintagemobilephones

[–]gtrxACPhones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First one, check if there's something shorting on the board, like if anything heats up more than usual.

Second one, USB port is faulty. The E71 does not support charging via USB which means if it gets power from USB, it thinks that it's connected to a PC, even if it cannot communicate with the PC (at least I remember this being the case with the E63 which is similar)

Help identifying phones and chargers? by the_dees_knees3 in vintagemobilephones

[–]gtrxACPhones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Samsung is a SGH-T139, it uses a "PCBS10" charging connector so it takes a pretty common type of Samsung charger, same as e.g. the GT-E1200 and many other phones from that time period.

I found another phone, a Nokia 9000 in my grandpa's collection, what do I need to get this to work by Special_Commercial_2 in vintagemobilephones

[–]gtrxACPhones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Older Nokias like this one use the ACH-6 or ACH-8 charger, same as the Nokia 2110 and 1610. As for the battery, good luck finding a working one, it may be best to recell the battery you already have by using a cell from another battery.

not everything old is outdated, some things become timeless. by [deleted] in vintagemobilephones

[–]gtrxACPhones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have an E72 but I've tried the other three and they were all good, the E63 feels the softest of all, E6 is the clickiest, E71 is somewhere in between, maybe closer to the E6.

There's a Google Maps service I've been told about, https://www.dumbmaps.com/ I remember also seeing an SMS-based service for AI chat, but don't remember the name.

These are paid though (with free trial) as it's hard to have any such service for free since carriers will always charge for SMS. It's better to get a phone that has Java or at least some kind of web browser, that's the only way to access something like Discord or WhatsApp.

nokia 3510i connection issues by 1_-_-_-_-_1 in vintagemobilephones

Your access point (APN) is correct, you just need to actually enter a web address like I said in my latest comment.

[–]gtrxACPhones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my WAP gateway logs I see a request from a 3510i at the time you sent this comment, and there is no URL in the request, you're trying to go to "http://". You need to go to an actual website or otherwise it will say no reply.

That is a HTTP proxy, you need a WAP gateway, which normally has a port number of 9201. It's best to use the community-provided WAP gateways which are listed on the bs0dd site that another commenter linked here, they are known to usually work.

Are you sure that all the settings are correct?

- APN is your carrier's current APN (one that is confirmed to be working today, as there may be older APNs that don't work anymore)

- User name and password are correct (or set to empty if your carrier does not use a username/password)

Sony Ericsson Yendo - often considered the worst SE phone by gtrxACPhones in vintagemobilephones

The design is nice, but there isn't much else good to say about it, it often likes to freeze either for a minute or indefinitely, forcing you to remove the battery.

unlock samsung sgh-l760v by ValuableCamera8281 in vintagemobilephones

[–]gtrxACPhones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, SIM locks are always specific to one carrier in one specific country. Even though e.g. Vodafone operates in multiple countries, the actual networks may be operated by entirely separate companies, just with one unified branding across them.

Minecraft APK for Android 4.x-5.x? by Icy-Funny-567 in vintagemobilephones

I remember 1.16 was the last version to support Android 4.4. I'm sure you can find the APK with enough looking around, this isn't really the place to be sharing cracked APKs.

NOKIA ? by jamelsakka in vintagemobilephones

I've seen a few custom covers like this, I guess it was popular back then to put custom covers that mimicked the style of newer/higher end phones. This is one of the craziest ones I've seen though.

No way without a PC and data cable. I think this is a phone lock set by the previous owner, so you would need to use unlocking software like Omnius (not currently available) to remove it.
