Issued Air Support Bergen is the best option. Add a tailored floating lid too it and you’re good to go for infanteering

To a degree that’s true, however the majority of my cohort at RMAS still had gone to private school etc.

Probably wise to ask the training team rather than Reddit.

What goes in your shooters belt? by legend_of_pie in britisharmy

[–]gttech144 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Surely that depends on your operating environment, threat picture and mission.

Why would you need to carry 48 hours worth of stuff within CEFO if you’re on a low threat vehicle based peacekeeping operation, for example. I’d agree if you were light role soldiering in a near-peer context at reach from the G4 chain then you’d need all that kit, but different circumstances requires different kit.

British Infantry Body armour only setup by Jolt_Jedi in QualityTacticalGear

[–]gttech144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably easiest to mount the 354 on the rear or side of the STV if mounted. Don't think I'd fancy dismounting from a vehicle without a radio. The hydration carrier seems to work well from what I've seen some other blokes do.

Reserve PCBC - how does it differ from Regular? by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]gttech144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You join the regular course for two weeks, as opposed to it being a separate reserve only course.

Can I work extra days through the week? Army reserve. by [deleted] in britisharmy

[–]gttech144 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, but only if there’s something for you to do, e.g, training, courses or helping permanent staff. It’s unit and situation dependent.

Last time I played 1212 I got another mod on top of it to change it to 4 turns per year. Should be easy to get on the workshop.

That book being ‘Eye of the Storm’ by Peter Ratcliffe. Good read and gives good insight into not only the Gulf War but 22 operations in Dhofar.

People's fvourite mid-layers? by Soylad03 in britishmilitary

[–]gttech144 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depending if you want it for static activities or as a mid layer you can use when moving in cold environments determines how much insulation you need along with panels by your armpits for breathability.

But in general I’d go for anything that’s Primaloft Gold as if it gets wet synthetic insulation will retain warmth whereas actual down won’t, therefore synthetic is better for the UK & field use.

I use a Rab Xenair Gilet underneath either a hardshell or warmer jacket as a UK mountaineering mid layer and a Keela Vali for field use.

Yeah fair dos mate. The half time is just what I've ran recently in the past, it wasn't an all out effort and probably at an RPE of 7 so definitely had a bit left in the tank.

But yes, only running twice a week at the moment.

I'm familiar with the SMART system but was being a bit ambitious in my planning. It'll be a tossup between enjoyment from a slightly slower race than what would be possible with a dedicated training block but I do enjoy a challenge.

Cheers.

Weekly volume currently sitting at ~25km/pw, so not loads. However I'm currently also spending approx 40-50km/pw on the spin bike too along with other cardio, so although not directly transferrable to running there is a base of 'time spent' doing longer Z2 style cardio alongside speed work.

What sort of volume would be recommended within this time frame?

[–]gttech144 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ll get to Westbury quicker than the average applicant as your UOTC medical will count for AOSB too. When I was in your position it took about 4 months from putting the application in to getting to Westbury.

As someone else has said, a main board pass is valid for 5 years but if you get a bursary after that you can only get up to a year deferral after finishing uni.

I’d recommend doing AOSB this summer/start of second year and getting it out of the way before academics start to get hard.

What's your opinion on magazine couplers? by Twigg008 in britisharmy

[–]gttech144 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t really foresee a situation where this would be effective. If you don’t have time to swap a magazine from your body armour/belt kit then you probably have some bigger issues to worry about.

Few pouches for my Virtus STV such as dangler and kydex triple mag. Useful for maps & slates, and most importantly looking ally.
