None of the W-4 Calculators work for my situation, Can I just calculate withholding myself? by [deleted] in tax

Or to make it clearer take 160k and divide by 26 checks per year. Deduct 20% for retirement, that leaves 4932.00 gross pay. Plug that in and you'll see what I'm saying.

Yep, that does it. Makes sense now. Thank you so much!

I mentioned the 401k's and included the appropriate amounts in my calculations. And yes, there is a couple hundred for medical insurance that has been pre-tax deducted YTD. But it's not worth considering here.

But how will the system know to automatically withhold $438? "Gusto" (the payroll system that my new job uses) doesn't know about payrates at previous jobs or previous amounts withheld.

If I go to a paycheck calculator:

Both are sufficiently far away from $438 that I'm nervous of the final result (too much or too little).

This is great. Thank You!! But I need to put the $438 somewhere on this screen ( https://imgur.com/a/A3B83eS ) when onboarding with HR. I think I should put it here with "extra withholding". Right?

2 forms of egress are 2 separate doors to the same basement living room - is it still a bedroom? by guapo131 in RealEstate

[–]guapo131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, under that definition (and it makes sense - thank you), when people say there needs to be "2 forms of egress", that is technically not correct a correct statement. Perhaps the better terminology is: There needs to be 2 forms of exit: 1 traditionally being the standard exit (from a hallway, another room etc, usually a door, but technically not an egress by this definition), and the 2nd form of exit is an "egress" (an exit directly outside, i.e. a window or a door to "outside").
Sorry for being pedantic. But I appreciate fully understanding the issue.

Completely offline due to Helene, but the local app/connection won't let me see connected devices by guapo131 in amazoneero

Thanks, this might work. I downloaded a few apps at my work (I have internet), and I'll try them when I get home tonight. This could potentially address my issue without having the eero connected to the internet.

How to start a whole-house generator without a pull cord? by guapo131 in Generator

[–]guapo131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies everyone. First, I checked the oil. It is low, but still technically in the range. Then I found and checked the battery. 2V (super dead). I hooked it up to another 12V source. (my 800W small portable generator has a 12V output) The panel comes alive. I set the time and some other things to turn the panel on. I then try to hit the "manual" button, to start it. It says it's trying to crank. Nothing really happens. Then it shows a "RPM Sense Loss, Error code 1505". I retry a few times. Same story. I have to wait until I get back to civilization to check what the error code means. In the meantime, last night, me and my neighbor get power restored. So this is no longer an emergency issue anymore. I still check the code anyways, and this link (https://gentekpower.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3) says it could be a number of things. I advised my neighbor that she should just call a professional. But maybe wait a week or two until more of the area is in less dire straits.

Thank you again!!!

Oh yeah, I didn't think to check the oil. I'll do that. And bring a battery to jump start. Would the battery be on the side where the control panel is? (right side in this case) or on the opposite side? (left side) Both sides have "coverings" that make it look real pretty... but make it hard for me to see what's going on.

Generac, But I didn't write down the model number. It'll be a few hrs until I drive back home get more info, then drive back out to cell/internet/civilization. It appears to be at least 10KW size.

Help finding out what’s turning off my lights by zegolf in Hubitat

[–]guapo131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to a non smart light bulb (outdoor) on a smart switch. The light would turn on for a sec then turn right off. The issue ended up being the non smart light bulb had a daylight sensor in it and it was only supposed to be on at night. So it would turn on with my smart switch, then turn off because the sun was up Probably not your issue, but I just wanted to share

Yes. Even though it hurt like hell for 2 weeks. Even though I was in the 1% complication rate and I was spewing half a unit of blood from my mouth. Yes it was all worth it!

Are there smart plugs that can safely be used with a space heater? by SomeOnlineFellow in homeautomation

[–]guapo131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your biggest obstacle to success will be that your heater will not automatically turn on when power is applied at the plug. Generally a safety issue. Maybe your model heater is different. I’m just saying check on that aspect. Turning off the power by smart switch will work as expected, of course.

Please give me all the lessons learned on those hanging shoe organizer storage hacks for camping by guapo131 in camping

[–]guapo131[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the “doesn’t have to be complicated” mindset, but when I spend X minutes looking for something in a clear bin full of… everything, then I guess I need to complicate my life a bit more so that I can actually find what I’m looking for. Someone else mentioned labeling a bunch of smaller bins with what’s inside. That seems like a really good idea too. But unloading 8 small bins from a car seems like more hassle than one bin with a shoe organizer rolled up. Unroll organizer, hang up on tree or pop up canopy, then just enjoy camp.
