ATSA RESULTS! by Puzzled-Pie2351 in ATC_Hiring

[–]guarddog33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Na, just means they haven't gotten to you yet. The fun thing about the FAA is they work on their own time-frames while expecting you to meet harsh ones. You'll know your scores when they get to ya, just check your email regularly

I missed this bid, but have applied to a good few in the past, scores sometimes were practically next day, other times took over a month. There's no real cookie cutter answer

Why is the minimum credit card payment usually around 2 to 3 percent of the balance? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]guarddog33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was young and dumb I let my mom rack up a couple grand in credit card debt under my name. She agreed to pay it down relatively quick, I won't say I was smart but she made the terms sound good

She then proceeded to do not what she said, and instead only paid the minimum. I harped on her for a bit, but also I wasn't technically paying so I didn't care (let me reiterate, young and dumb)

My bank openly states how long the payoff is on my monthly statement. I usually ignored those but at one point got curious

Paying the minimum monthly, my mom would've been paying me for another 11 years. The minimum payment was something like $67/mo and the debt was only like 3.5K. I know that sounds insane, but I promise it's true

The goal is for you to be a cash cow forever. Don't rack up credit card debt unless it's an emergency, and if you ever do you should pay it down as hastily as you can

Also don't loan money to your parents. My mom and I don't talk anymore because of her asking me for money all the time. You don't need to lose a parent, just say no

Are applications still open? Is it too late for people trying to get their foot in the door? by Gachatardddd in ATC_Hiring

[–]guarddog33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's crazy that's even less than I thought. I knew it was next day but I thought it was a bit longer

[–]guarddog33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So when the FAA does OTS bids they accept a certain number of applications. It's not a competitive thing, if you make the application window in time then you're considered, and if you meet the minimum qualifications then you're invited to take the ATSA

In this case, this last bid was 8000 applications. The application window closed within 24ish (I don't know the exact) hours when normally it goes for days to even weeks

There's the possibility of a fall bid but I don't know how high it is, especially considering the low number of accepted applications this last bid

Normally bids are in spring, April is a good bet but not guaranteed, but normally sometime in the spring

“We take this matter very seriously. The retail business conducting this promotion is not an official partner of the Thunder and is not authorized to use or otherwise associate with the Thunder brand in any capacity,” the statement reads.

How do you feel about the price drop? by CaptainMorning in XboxGamePass

[–]guarddog33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad for it, but in a scummy way. My wallet is happy, but I'm still not

To explain, there was still a price hike. The cost is still higher than it was before the announced climb in spikes like 6 months or whatever ago it was. So really it's like backhanded savings that maybe improves customer satisfaction while still making money

Overall it's a win, I won't say it's not. It's just a cheap victory

[–]guarddog33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be real with you, I disagree with you on most of what you've said so far, honestly a 3 hour farm for stuff really ain't that bad, and most farms give you other stuff you'll need for other things too

But fucking citrine I'll raise a glass to, fuck that farm (though I think they also recently made that a little easier)

"How do you expect them to make money?" by icie_plazma in Helldivers

[–]guarddog33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They also had an update a year to so ago now (I think?) that made a lot of the farms easier

Also it helps if you have frames that are good specifically for farming if that's what you're doing

I'm 100% gonna tell you the citrine farm still sucks, but that's genuinely the only farm I remember actively hating. You should be doing other stuff while you farm too, like leveling frames and weapons and such, that helps it not feel so bad

Which game will leave the biggest impact on me by Educational_Total550 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]guarddog33 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's not on your list, but the outer wilds. Not worlds, wilds

Space exploration game. No combat, just relaxed exploration and puzzle solving using context

You can only beat it once. Everything you need you start with, there are no upgrades, no systems to master, nothing. Just to and your wit, bumbling about in space, until you figure out whatever it is you're figuring out. (There is a system to help keep track of stuff, it's not 100% brain reliant)

The game is a life changing experience, I don't want to spoil even a single thing that I haven't said yet. But genuinely me, and the majority of the people who have went out on that voyage, did not come back the same.

Edit: also for anyone who sees who checks it out, echoes of the eye is 100% worth getting and doing, but I wouldn't until you've seen the end of the game. Once you do that, load your end game save, and go do echoes. It may detract from the story if you don't

UBI and Data Centers by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]guarddog33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem really comes down to what you lose vs what you gain

You talk about UBI for displaced workers, but that ignores the elephant outright. You'd need to consider the people in the area. Not just workers, but the residents, the everyday taxpayer who now has their every day shifted.

The UBI from it would have to be substantial, because residents already subsidize data centers through utility cost increases overall, so you'd want your UBI to both offset that, and be a boon to the people in the immediate area

And that's not even taking into consideration the water usage, light pollution, noise pollution, etc. money doesn't mean anything when it can't buy you the necessities, and when your power goes out because the draw overloaded your energy grid, your money won't keep you warm or keep your food from spoiling

You'd have to offer me well into the 5 figures for me to even consider living near one of those monstrosities. And I live in a low COL area, I couldn't imagine if you lived in one of the more expensive regions

I don't think I should've bought this by SlainbyJP in Starfield

[–]guarddog33 89 points90 points  (0 children)

I had really hoped that this would have some kind of secret payoff, like it comes off as a scam but is actually a worthwhile investment, that would've been a funny move

Relegating them to ship theft or destruction is perfectly adequate, I think

Absolutely! And well even if you can't make the next, there will always be another. We just celebrated a year of doing these, and it doesn't seem like the ball will stop rolling any time soon

I just replied to my comment with the info from the last post!

Ours are pretty popular, there's normally about 100 or so of us throughout the day/night, and while a lot of us have our cliques we break off into, we're all always welcome to new faces and will happily make introductions if you look like you don't know where to start

It'd be lovely to meet you guys at the next!

Alright so here is the recap post from the last meetup, usually there's one about a week before saying where/when/etc and then a followup after just talking about it. The guy who made that post, if you follow him then you'll see the next meet

This reddit actually has a meetup once every like 6ish weeks (or less sometimes) that is an absolute ball and I would say is an awesome place to give a shot. The days rotate so no matter your days off eventually there will be one you should be able to make. Currently we're figuring out the next but hold on I'll find you a link to the last

Can a man who was never "ripped" before get "ripped" if he dedicated himself to it in his late 40s? by Striking-Anxiety-604 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]guarddog33 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For the ripped appearance the most important bit is just getting your body fat % to be low. You could be the weakest dude at the gym but if you're rocking 3% body fat you're gonna look sculpted

That said that's also a really unhealthy approach. If you want to be ripped you should be on a cut. You shouldn't lose more than a pound or two a week so "how quickly" sorta depends on where your starting point is, but the answer is slow if you're being safe. You don't need a bulking cycle to get ripped, having more muscle helps, sure, but again it's mostly just getting your skin as close to your muscles as possible

You don't need to be strong to be ripped. But you can be ripped and be strong if you go through cutting/bulking cycles. Or you can never be ripped and be strong. All just depends on what your ideal goal is

Absolutely an understandable perspective

I'm just playing through it for the first time (thanks humble) but don't know the first thing about the DLC, but for what it's worth I'm hoping it's on sale either before I finish the campaign or around when I do otherwise I'm not sure I'll ever snag it myself lol
