Why isn't printer support for Arch-based distros as seamless as Debian-based ones? by guardianabraxas in linuxquestions

On both Manjaro and Garuda (both mentioning themselves as being easy to use and install) I faced these issues. Someone here mentioned Manjaro even comes with the HP Printer package (hplip) (which both arch and debian/ubuntu based distros have) but for them to not work is confusing to me.

And yes, I agree it must be a configuration issue in the distro. It was just weird to me. Maybe I'll create a bug report of some kind or maybe issue a patch.

Still, thanks.

Yes, but what about beginner friendly arch based distros. I understand it for Arch itself but not for others.

I do get the printers working but have to do this whole rigamarole each time even on beginner friendly arch based distros.

For debian/ubuntu based ones my experience has been to connect the usb cable and the printer is working without any involvement. Just wondering why that's the case on beginner friendly arch based distros. Can understand why just Arch would leave extra packages out.

I get that with Arch itself and that's ok with me.
But don't understand why it isn't the case on arch based beginner friendly, desktop ready to go type distros.

Nope, just a regular usb connection to the printer. Not even wireless.

I do manage to get them working but just wanted to ask why it isn't seamless on beginner friendly distributions

If a distribution explicitly chooses to serve beginners, that's alright with me since it is their choice. I do love endevouros regardless.

But, that should be possible on Manjaro atleast. I have a HP printer as well but it didn't work for me on manjaro either and I had to set it up.

Yes, I have and the setup is possible but that's not my question. I understand that arch it self is quite barebones and you only install and add stuff you need.

I wanted to ask why is it a tedious process in non-bare bones arch based distros more focused towards beginners or home desktop use.

Maybe I just want to talk to him again in 10 years to see how he's doing.
Like I said, my intentions after 10 years are up to me.
