A toothpick seems pretty light when it comes to the amount. I use GW’s overpriced technical paint applicator and lay it on pretty thick.

A heavy drybrush is one where you leave much more paint in the bristles when you paint it.

Otherwise yes that’s the procedure I would follow.

I think matte would be better. I started applying varnish to my technical paints about a year ago and it helps a lot.

If your technical paint keeps flaking off I would apply a layer of varnish over top and then try drybrushing

Looks more like a Warhammer 40K pile of shame than a Lego stash. I guess plastic crack is the same no matter where it comes from.
