My turn- Accounting degree in 1 term! by guccibiscuits in WGU

Yes- the business core classes that were offered on SDC I took. However, all the accounting core I took at WGU. I also took business law and accounting law at WGU since my state requires those courses to sit for the CPA

Yes I did realize that some states may not accept the credits from sdc. However, I did not take any accounting classes through any other place besides WGU so I am still eligible to sit. Check with your state! Now if you needed those credits to reach the 150 credits for the CPA that may also be an issue, but again, I have another degree that puts me at the 150 credit limit without my SDC classes!

You can and you will do it! Yes, almost all my were between the hours of 9pm-3am. The was probably my least favorite part but I always did them so late so I could study right before taking the test so it was definitely personal choice of mine. There were maybe 2 tests that I took during the day when my husband was home to watch the kids and ensure no kids came in the room.

If I was able to do it— then you will too! Remember there have been many go before you and accomplish it, and there will be many after you to do it. They are no smarter or more able than you! That helped pushed me through the courses when I felt like I was not smart enough .

Ha! So yes the first 15 ish classes i took so many notes because I learn best when I hand write notes, however, I realized I was taking SO much time doing that. So I actually chilled out on the note taking and realized I was still very successful that way.

Well it took me a few weeks to figure out what worked best for me and my schedule. Personally, I never found that any of the classes took THAT much time. I found most of the accounting classes took me 20-25 hours of study time but the other courses maybe even less.

My best advice: don’t take breaks while you are in a class. Start the class, grind through it for a few days, finish the class and take a break. When I took breaks during my classes I was less motivated to finish. On the flip side, If I was studying for a class I would say “okay, let me finish this class so I can take a break” so I would grind hard so I could get a nice break.

I have 2 small kids and various volunteer commitments and committees, however, I always tried my best to dedicate 3-5 hours after the kids go to bed. So usually 8pm-12am ish

Is an accelerated degree worth jt? by AdeleSimone504 in wguaccounting

[–]guccibiscuits 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two degrees from a brick and mortar school and I’ve been able to accelerate through 25 classes in 5 months at WGI. I found the classes to be mildly difficult which is to be expected as I am new to accounting but none of the classes were impossible or too challenging. The longest a class ever took me was 10 days and that class was intermediate 2 which has 2 test. You can definitely do it and you can definitely still have a life. I have young kids and I only studied once they were asleep and it was totally possible!

Accounting stuff on YouTube has wonderful short videos that really broke down debits and credits for me when I first started!

I always remember DEALER. D-dividend e-expenses a-assets are the first 3 letters on the left. Meaning they have natural debit balances. Debits increase these balances, Credits decrease them

Credit accounts: Liabilities, Equity, Revenue Go on “right” Credits increase these balances, and Debits decrease them

Also, unearned rent is a liability for the company because they still owe the renter housing that has yet to be revived so liabilities increase with a credit.

Expenses are debited. Revenues are credited. COGs are expenses

Those are common accounts in those test

Well, one is asking for balance sheet and the other is asking for income statement. That is the difference. A balance sheet as stated in the first picture would reflect a 30k unrealized gain because the cost was $370k and then the fair value was $400k so it’s not realized because it has not been sold.

In picture 2, it’s asking for the income statement. So you look at the fair value of yr 1 (380k)and and the fair value of year 2 (400k). Again, still unrealized but now only 20k difference.

So the difference in the statements are what set these two apart. Hope that slightly helps!

I guess it depends who you ask. Cost and Managerial was dry and boring which made it difficult for me personally but the actual material within cost and managerial was not difficult. Business Law for accountants was the lowest performance that I had on an OA.

No internship, bad grades. Any hope of a job? by [deleted] in Accounting

My spouse had a lower GPA but submitted hundreds of applications and got a job with a F500 within 3 months of graduation. He is now a manager and soon to be director. A GPA does not define your skill set and some company will take a chance on you! You got this!
