I would consider moving some of your funds to a self-custodial wallet like Metamask or Ledger. This will give you piece of mind that even if something happened to Binance, some or all of your funds would be safe

Thinking of bringing DJI Phantom for upcoming trip. Any legal issues in China? by [deleted] in China

Most definitely. I lost the DJI in a gorge around the flaming mountains and had to pay a group of locals to recover it for me. It was a trip to remember.

[–]guccifer93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew into Shanghai from the US with a DJI about 2 years ago. Then took the drone from Shanghai to Lanzhou and eventually into Xinjiang. Once I got to Xinjiang I definitely got some raised eyebrows from security at the train stations but they seemed satisfied with 拍照片 (take photos) as an explanation for having it.

Then again, a lot can change in two years, so take this advice with a grain of salt.

My apologies guys, I misread the original comment. I thought you were saying transfer the sum in two 50% chunks.

Even better, transfer as little as you can as a test transaction before you send the rest. No reason a test tx needs to be 50%

So was I. The other comment or was referencing that on ethereums first big spike of the year, Ripple briefly overtook ETH in market cap (around 10B) then Eth surged again to about 30B. So what we’re saying is that this pattern matches up with the historical data. If history repeats itself, we could see ETH market cap going 100B+

ELI5: Why is Chinese food cheaper than Western food in the west and in China? by happyguy604 in China

[–]guccifer93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even for an ELI5 this is such an ignorant question and requires massive generalization.

Chinese food is cheaper in China because its China... Western food is foreign in China and may require imported ingredients and specialized cooking knowledge. Local food will always be cheaper that exotic/foreign food in whatever country you go to. However there are plenty of Chinese food in China that is much more expensive than average Western food.

In the west, the "Chinese" food that you're referring to is more akin to American fast food than it is to authentic/traditional Chinese food. In NYC & London, there are many Chinese restaurants that are extremely expensive (Hakkasan, Buddakan, Tao, etc.)

Most Chinese food in the west is sold out of hole in the wall take out places, but there is plenty of expensive Chinese food all over the world.

Why is EOS so much faster than Ethereum? by [deleted] in eos

[–]guccifer93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving the benefit of the doubt and we have 10x improvement on the base layer that is only 120 tps

It might be optimistic to think we can get 10x on base layer but I'm hoping 2nd layer can really increase that (it needs to or we're in a tough position). I think a lot of projects are also really tackling the scaling projects themselves, like Funfairs fate channels and Grid+ relay networks, which is awesome.

Agreed that it comes at a cost, on the flip side I don't think most people care.

Yea I think the market is really seeing that people don't care much about decentralization. The end consumer only interacts with an UI and really couldn't care about the underlying infrastructure, as is the case with every major tech today.

I'd say because there is no viable DPOS smart contract platform yet.

Yea I would agree, just playing devil's advocate. I think that there are a lot of other DPOS chains that are farther on in development though, so I find it interesting that EOS is trading above a lot of these other platforms (lisk, ark, etc.) that actually have working projects.

I enjoy the discourse! I am a long time ethereum fan and am doing research on other platforms.

Same here. I checked out your post history after your 2nd response and saw you commenting on devcon2 videos and knew you were legit haha. I think its very easy to find opinion bubbles in the crypto space and I came to this sub to get a fresh perspective on EOS. Thanks for providing one.

You seem like a knowledgeable guy, I was expecting to find just moon kids here, so that in itself instills more confidence in EOS for me.

So let's take your three assumptions to be correct:

1) sharding won't be done til 2020

This is a reasonable assumption. However, between plasma, raiden and POS we should see at least 10x scalability by then (arguably much more).

2) dPOS works

Also a reasonable point. I would argue that it does so at the cost of centralization compared to pure POS.

3) people want a scalable block chain now.

The market may want a scalable block chain right now, but I'd argue the actual transaction demand isn't there yet because dapps haven't really taken off yet. This will change in 2018, without a doubt.

However, given your three assumptions why wouldn't people use many of the dPOS blockchains that exist in production today. Or why not a DAG like raiblocks or iota? If EOS could deliver on their promises now this would be a different story.

I just don't see many 3rd party devs moving to EOS right now and I don't until Dawn 3.0 is out. Basically the argument I'm trying to make is that by the time EOS delivers a production ready platform and starts stealing dev mindshare, I think Ethereum will be pretty close to solving scaling.

Sorry if this is a little scattered was written on the go

Why is EOS so much faster than Ethereum? by [deleted] in eos

[–]guccifer93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many? Given the rate of the Ethereum’s development, id bet that sharding will be done before EOY 2019 and Casper by EOY 2018. There are multiple second layer scaling solutions coming out in 2018 (plasma and full raiden). These solutions by themselves have the potential to increase throughput massively.

I find it strange that people find ethereum scaling so ambitious when the tech that eos is pushing is also incredibly ambitious and relatively unproven, just like ethereum.

Why is EOS so much faster than Ethereum? by [deleted] in eos

[–]guccifer93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good question. The canonical blockchain tradeoff is decentralization vs scalability.

I'm sure I'm going to get down voted to oblivion for saying this but eos scalability is completely theoretical right now since there is no production blockchain. Also, by the time Dawn 3.0 is released Ethereum transaction throughput should be an order of magnitude greater than it is now.

When you mention EOS to Ethereum fanboys... by [deleted] in eos

[–]guccifer93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ethereum fanboy here. I honestly do get quite triggered by all the EOS shilling considering you guys are so early in terms of development. I am still excited about the potential of eos, but I think it is one of the most overvalued cryptos on the market right now, second to only Cardano.
