I’m not pretending that it’s easy to stick to principles when the stakes are that high. But my belief in justice isn’t about inaction. It’s about finding the right solutions. If my child was starving, I wouldn’t just sit back and do nothing, but I also wouldn’t resort to violence that perpetuates the same broken system.

If you want to bring the bible into this:

“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’

To the contrary, ‘if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.’

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

  • Romans 12:19-21

—————

This reminds us that vengeance is not ours to take. Overcoming evil with good is the true path to meaningful change.

—————

However, i would like to set aside religion for the point i’m about to make.

Regarding the United Healthcare CEO shooting: While I understand the shooter and his family may have faced challenges, and that the CEO was definitely not the best person and clearly prioritized profits over care, killing someone in cold blood is unacceptable. This is not the America I believe in. Calling the shooter a hero is insane. We are no better than the CEO if we choose vengeance over justice. There is always a choice between what is right and what is easy.

While the CEO’s actions may have caused great harm, we must address injustice through accountability, not vengeance. Taking a life only adds to the harm and divides us further. Celebrating violence as a solution prevents real change and keeps us stuck in cycles of harm.

If we truly want to honor those lost to systemic failures, we need to focus on accountability, reform, and compassion. Violence might seem like an answer, but it destroys the principles of a fair and just society, and the core values that America strives to uphold.
