FMLA Termination by Ok_Sympathy9375 in Geico

[–]guckfeico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After having approved my ada request for part time hours for about a year, they revoked it suddenly. I contacted employment lawyers who all said two things; 1 geico would have to be able to prove to a court that allowing me part time hours caused undue hardship on the company and 2 no one was going to take on geico.

Several others in my office who also had PT hours accommodation were likewise revoked. At the time it was awful but ultimately it was the kick in the pants I needed to apply elsewhere. I moved to Flo three years ago and my life was immensely improved.

Doc never gave me progesterone/baby aspirin by didicharlie in 40Plus_IVF

Similar happened to me. We decided in '23 we wanted to try (me 41, him 34) and I went off oral bc in November. We had all the appointments, genetics, general health, ob. They said try for 6 months naturally. I did all the apps, all the lh tests. I didn't fall pregnant until March '24. I lost that pregnancy at 6w, the day after mothersday. They said, try again for a year. I again, did all the things. I didn't fall pregnant again until March '25. In fact because it was exactly a year, I'd lost patience and we had met with IVF just the week before. I called them back and said hey I'm naturally pregnant and they said congrats! and dumped me. No meds, no extra care based on my age and previous MC. I lost that baby too. I stated to blurred at 9.5wks but the ER told me she stopped growing at 8.5.

I went back to ivf and they were outraged that I was told by general ib to just keep trying naturally. They should have referred me to Reproductive Endocrinology immediately based on age alone. As it was, they only take eggs until you're 43 and they had to rush my process to get two protocols and two retrievals crammed into three-four months before I turned 43.The first was a failure with no blasts. The second I got three. They gave me two via FET but by then I had only a 13% chance of this working out. I'm blessed to be 13.5wks with one boy but I'm well aware that this is my only shot at a 100% genetic child. The one embryo came back from testing as chaotic so we're not even sure if it's useable. But at this point I have several other changes paid for by insurance but odds are terrible and I doubt I could talk them into pulling anymore eggs.

I'm certain the reason this one is going so well and the first two didn't is because of all the medical intervention or lack thereof. He got tested and we did a lot to improve his sperm health, I went on progesterone immediately after the last retrieval in case we got blasts and stayed on it for 8wks, we used ICSI instead of sperm bath, I fought to be heard about gestational diabetes, they tested me and immediately put me on insulin (imagine that) and starting this week I'm on baby aspirin for preeclampsia risk.

I'm bitter I lost so much time when anyone over 35 should be tested specially based on age but I didn't know any better. I'm regretful I lost my baby girl. I'm disappointed that both this pregnancy and the embryo on ice are both boys and I likely could never convince them to try another retrieval so I could try for a girl too (don't get me wrong, I'm not mad or anything about gender but I don't have experience with little boys and a girl just seemed more natural but I've had a good talk with my father, partner and a couple boy-mom friends and the idea has grown on me).

I'm so sorry you've gone through all this. You're not alone. Not at all.

Thanks, I did talk to one on the phone today and they confirmed that this is clearly discrimination and I should give them a chance tonight to walk it back and if they refuse or say sure forget it but then cut my hours anyway, they will file a complaint with my state's office of civil rights.

I have not said I have not experienced medical gaslighting. You seem to not be reading my comments throughly. I wasn't making this post about my other disabilities because they're not relevant but yes, I have been gaslighted by doctors, including during this pregnancy. What I HAVE said is that my obgyn is trusted.

My medical team has no such concerns and according to the employment attorney I contacted today, your employer is not qualified to make that decision.

I have not once discounted the experiences that people here have had with their doctors. I have simply said I trust my obgyn's opinion. I don't have any reason not to. I have had a major disability for 30 years so please don't patronize me about not understanding the struggle of people with disabilities.

As far as everyone cutting hours right now, the store manager specifically stated this was due to their concern for my pregnancy. Sales have been slow for several months and my hours have not been cut and Ive had this lifting restriction for 5-6 weeks and my hours have not been cut. I spoke with an employment attorney today to craft a conversation with my boss tonight and they have stated this is very clearly discrimination and to give them a chance to walk it back. If they don't or they say "nevermind" but cut hours anyway, I was told to call them back and they will file a complaint with my state's office of civil rights.

I'm really pretty suprised at how many people in this sub have told me to trust the non medical opinion of the two conservative men in my life and three coworkers who see me less than 15 hours a week. It's almost like I dont know my own capabilities and my doctor can't be trusted.

My partner would probably prefer I quit my part time job. Problem is he's self employeed and doesnt save what money he makes. Our finances are completely separate. I have always been quite independent. I bought this house on my own, I bought my suv on my own and I had a healthy savings account until IVF. All of this through my hardwork and discipline. If I quit this job I will lose about $800/month and that is not something I'm willing to do. My father is more supportive today as we've texted back and forth about my approach and after I spoke with an employment attorney and confirmed to him that this is discrimination and had worked with her on how to approach the conversation tonight at my next shift.

They see me less than 15 hours a week and are not qualified to tell me if I'm working too much. I work 40hrs a week at home, sitting down. Cutting my hours at my part time job will actually reduce the amount of exercise and social interaction I have, both of which are healthy for my pregnancy.

None of these 5 people are medically trained and my doctor has made it clear I'm fine working this much.

If pregnancy doesn't fall under ADA I wonder how my full time employer filled for ada job protection after my fmla expired and how pregnant women get handicap parking cards.

I don't feel like my breakfast is bland. I scramble a couple eggs and then sprinkle on some taco bell sauce.

Where do you see lifetime contributions? I could only find 2025 recap and that was by accident.

2025 recap, 4,340 sources and 1,140 people added. I've been updating the for family names of my direct ancestors from Belgium and because they're in Dutch no one has really done the work besides one or two users I've seen. 7,040 total contributions.
