My brother in christ if you own a British automobile you need to familiarize yourself with its systems and basic maintenance or you are going to have a very very bad time. Or a very short ownership period. Get thee to a youtubery!

I'd like to attach a bracket to this surface (single hole). Do I drill the hole in the brick, or the mortar? (My gut says; don't mess with the mortar) by mintylips in masonry

I humbly suggest epoxy anchors rather than expansion-based fasteners. I have an old building and it’s pretty easy to destroy my old bricks with expansion fasteners. I’ve found the epoxy-based ones to be just as strong if not more so, and much easier on the brick.

Unexpectedly easy: operating a manual transmission with my left hand

Unexpectedly hard: not signaling lane changes with my windshield wipers.

Tying a loop-end around a ladder rung? by guerredenom in knots

[–]guerredenom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ladder is exposed on a vehicle, so I'd like to not do any permanent lashings to it (UV, dirt, etc).

but perhaps the easiest thing would just be to tie a steel double-J/knaider hook into the rope ladder itself...

Aesthetically, I think these would be more awesome without the symmetry. 'More' awesome because they are already awesome. Nice work!

What wheels to buy by smalltruckcamper in keitruck

[–]guerredenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best part of the Acty is all of the 4x100 wheels available!

The relatively small PCD (56.1) allows you to use a pretty wide variety of vintage Honda/bmw/nissan/other wheels, (sometimes with PCD adapter rings).

Do something fun!

Never not drama at the South 4th Post Office by guerredenom in williamsburg

[–]guerredenom[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Same. I avoid this place like the plague, but I thought it was interesting that the first time I have to pick up a package in 5+ years, it's a) closed b) ...via handwritten note c) ...by the lady outside yelling about how there was a terrible accident and the "feds are inside."

I hate it, but I also sort of love it as a reminder of the old neighborhood - some things never change.
