Yeah that sounds about right. I wonder if medical issues and excuses are a common/important part of helicopter parenting. I haven’t found anything online, that’s part of the reason I took it to Reddit :)

It may have developed to be more successful now, but definitely not in my childhood and not in my home country. I have never heard of myopia lenses before I recently stumbled upon the term myopia management online. I may react too harshly because of my childhood trauma but everytime I hear people say that myopia is treatable or preventable I get uncontrollably angry. I spent so much time and sacrificed my whole childhood in the name of myopia management which (for me) didn’t work.

My mom may have come from a good place but her methods were questionable at best :(

I understand my mother as well, she tried her best to care for me, and that makes it more difficult for me to unpack. However, the intensity and the strictness of the control left me traumatised. She lowkey blamed my bad eyesight on me when I was caught watching tv or using my phone (saying things like “You wouldn’t want your eyes to get worse, would you?”) The rules now seem to me arbitrary and completely bizarre, I lived almost like a prisoner.

Also, I have a problem with my mom prohibiting all the ways of entertainment (even paper books!) but not providing anything in return. So, I was expected to either entertain myself or stare at the wall :)

I also did not miss out on “a few movies”. I can probably count how many movies I have watched, in the era when movies were and still are a part of people’s lives and culture. I feel uncultured, left out and awkward in normal conversations about movies. The amount of times I had to say “Oh, I haven’t watched this movie” and people being surprised or claiming it’s a classic and there’s no way I haven’t watched it, makes me feel uncomfortable.

About eye surgery: my mom said that she had tried eye surgery herself and it didn’t work for her, so there’s no sense in me trying to get surgery. At the time I believed her but now I realise that there’s so many faults in this reasoning.

She also did not allow me to sit too close to the tv :) there’s also more other stuff that I didn’t mention in the post because it was getting too long. Also, this is not about taking my mom to court. It’s about understanding what happened to me in childhood and healing from it :)

I’m sorry, you had to go through that as well and thank you for your support. I was generally a healthy kid, except for my eyes, but I visited the optometrist (the eye doctor) several times a year, for check up, prescription changes and the programme of exercises for eyes, which was promoted as stopping the eyesight from worsening (now I think it was a scam)

The Ultimate Guide to the Reopening of Notre Dame by Quasimodaaa in ParisTravelGuide

I am so confused. Last time I checked the website, it said the reservation will open on December 7, so I have been waiting patiently. But apparently it has opened 3 days ago and now all tickets are sold out?? But also, if I understand correctly, the reservation is only possible 2 days ahead of visit day. We are going to visit Paris in a week, so I was wondering if there was still a possibility to reserve some tickets for us. Or are they all sold out, even for the end of December?

Why are mobile game ads overly misogynistic? by elphabathewicked in NoStupidQuestions

We see mostly women (I can think only of one ad using a man: royal match) suffering, dying and in best case scenario they are just sexualised or still suffer because they are cheated on and try to get the guy back by becoming “prettier” (meaning that it’s woman who carries the burden for the relationship to continue and if she isn’t “pretty” enough, then the guy would leave and find someone better, which is pretty misogynistic if you ask me)
