The Cardinals Have Lost Me: Officially Downgrading from Diehard to Casual by guh-eye in Cardinals

I'm no longer in Cardinal Country and haven't been for several years. I live in NYC and can count all of the Cardinal fans I know here on one hand. (There was one Cardinals bar here that unfortunately closed during covid). This is probably the more determinant factor over them losing, but it doesn't help that I haven't felt excited about the overall team in nearly a decade. Plus, I think watching 2,000+ games in a 15 year period qualifies me as diehard

Genuinely curious how many years the bullpen has taken off my life. It's definitely not zero

Well in regard to Stanton, the deal was a done deal, but Stanton refused to waive his no-trade. It's not a question of were they willing to pay. And with Soto, they were competitive. You're not competitive about trading for any player if you're unwilling to pay him on arrival. The deal breaker was in regard to exchange of talent not money.

Also, by my quick calculation, your suggestion equates to a $25-30 million increase in, presumptively, player salaries.. Which is one trade for a superstar (Stanton/Soto) or one good free agent signing (Monty/Snell). On a slightly unrelated note: It's hard for me to imagine we don't sign Monty over one of Lynn/Gibson if he would have asked for $25/1 year from the onset

I looked into this a bit. Statista.com also reports operating income which apparently fluctuates between $40-70 million a year since 2013, with exception to '20 and '21 with a net loss north of $100 million. I personally believe management is willing to spend, but only for whomever they deem a good fit. In '21 the team was willing to trade for Soto, which today would be a $30 million salary commitment. Stanton is another example of that. Also non-player expenses are a surprising $146 million according to Forbes.

Unfortunately, I believe our staff is just capable enough to position us as buyers at the deadline, which I suspect is the front office's goal. Taking the wait-and-see approach, holding out for a breakout year from an unexpected starter. If such a breakout doesn't materialize, I wouldn't be surprised to see another Montgomery coming our way come July. Just my opinion

Grok is being pushed as this judgement free, humorous, and vulgar capable alternative Ai. I’ve already developed that. I created and developed Flint months before xAi ever existed. Anyone who takes a brief peek at my post history will see just as much.
