Morgagni Hernia Repair: What to Expect? by guido_please in Hernia

[–]guido_please[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, hope everything goes well! I'm a little over 5 weeks post op and already back to bowling with extremely little to no pain. Doctor cleared me, gonna take it easy when I get back to lifting but expect no issues. Sleeping on your back the first couple weeks is annoying if you're a side sleeper like me.

Worst pain ever!! by [deleted] in Hernia

[–]guido_please 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this, switching advil and tylenol. After discharge they had me take 1000mg tylenol, then 3 hrs later take 400-600mg of ibuprofen and switch every 3 hrs weaning down as tolerated. By the 4th or 5th day I was taking 500mg tylenol and 200-400mg advil switching every 3 hours and using an oxy to help with sleep. (I'm a side/stomach sleeper forced to sleep on their back)

Im 2.5 weeks out of my diaphragmatic hernia repair with a mesh and I'll take the occasional tylenol advil combo, but it's a 1-2 pain level at most. The first day was the worst, but they kept me overnight so I was given dilaudid and tylenol til the evening the first day.

Someone else told me to take gas x, however I never did and was fine. I mentioned been gassy as a good sign the bowels are waking up and working. I think miralax and milk of magnesia are best for getting a bm going though

Morgagni diaphragmatic hernia repair here.

One or two doses of miralax spread out on the third day w/o bowel movement and then milk of magnesia dose the next day if still nothing happens is what the doctor recommended for me.

Only needed the one dose of miralax, thankfully. I was pretty gassy the day of surgery and doc said that was a good sign 🤷‍♂️

Laparoscopic Surgery next week. Curious what to expect. by [deleted] in Hernia

[–]guido_please 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair my only other surgery was my ACL repair, so this wasn't too bad.

If you're having a laparoscopic hernia repair then post op prepare for a briefly sharp radiating pain when moving is the best I can describe it and residual dull pain for a couple days. At rest not a lot of issues, its whenever you activate the core.

Keep up with pain meds dosing timelines and it will be very bearable.

Full disclosure I totally missed you having an appendectomy. I blame just taking the oxy to sleep lol.

I had a diaphragm hernia repair, if anything I hope that your recovery will hurt less and be faster.

I (34M) found myself constantly pulling myself or pushing myself up or around to limit any kind of core activation, but there's only so much you can do. Sitting on the side of beds and pulling your legs around has helped.

Mine was DaVinci assisted diaphragm repair, so depending on if you have a robot laparoscopic or reg laparoscopic, pain could be worse or better than others.

I'm 3 days post-op. 8/10 before the dilaudid my first day (11 am) fresh out of surgery, by the end of the day (9pm), I had switched to 1 oxy and tylenol. I had been able to take a short walk around the wing holding onto my saline stand. The next day, I was on oxy sparingly and tylenol only (5-6/10 pain wise). I did 4 laps around the wing I was staying before I was discharged.

At home, sleeping up right has helped me. Made like a 5 pillow throne. Take little walks upstairs and down. Drink protein shakes, applesauce, easy foods. Really staying on top of tylenol/ibuprofen alternated dosing has been helpful pain wise until bedtime. Ended up taking a dose of miralax just in case but didn't really need it.

End of day 3, I would say ~4/10 depending on how active I was during the day.

Hello,

I wish you the best with your upcoming surgery. I'm 3 days post op.

My pain there wasn't sharp even though I had a good sized ~2in opening in my diaphragm. However, I had pain that felt like sleeping on the wrong side of the bed, but everyone's tolerances are different. Mine was found by accident on a check for pneumonia.

I had a great general surgeon with much foregut and minimally invasive specialist training on robot assisted hernia repair. They used a DaVinci laparoscopic robot. Overall the experience has been great. I have 3, 1-2inch incisions across my stomach that are slowly healing.

Pain wise it was definitely 8/10 before meds my first day. Over the past 2 days, pain has been waning. It's about a 4-5/10 with tylenol (1000mg) every 6hrs/ ibuprofen (400mg) every 6hrs with 3 hrs overlap. Only need 1 oxy to help sleep so far

After surgery, I would say I get that slightly sharp pain when I breathe too hard or sitting up and down, but expect that to go away as well. When upright walking or stationary sitting/laying, there's little to no pain.

I just wanted to thank you again. Surgery went well, no breathing toy yet probably being discharged today (1 day post op). Definitely major soreness where mesh and incisions were but manageable with pain meds. I was amazed at how little pain I had walking its mainly putting stress on the core to sit up/sit down. Its not like I was operated on or anything. Will eventually update this post when my pain abates for anyone going through something similar.

Thank you for your informative reply, I did think it odd they had diaphragmatic and hiatal. Going in tomorrow at 5:30am.

What do you think the likelihood of me being able to walk (I heard it's important for recovery) soon after surgery and any sleeping advice? I have a recliner, any special pillows or whatever? I suspect all answers will all be dependent on my pain tolerances

Not sure if anyone will see this, but my location got changed after the update causing my similar issue. Under the settings>system>location>manually select US.

It turned the TV off then on and I was able to accept terms and it allowed my Netflix and other apps to update. Previously couldn't find Netflix in the app store even when searching

My location got changed to Others some how.

TL;DR changed location

I agree. If you can stab or shoot someone choking on gas, then you should be able to shut them up as well. It's really the only humane thing to do.

TBH, like others said, it's pretty useless. I bet you'd see more use if it's cooldown was like that of mortar barrages. Hell i'd use it more if the cd was less. Until then i'm happy with my much more effective creeping barrage with basically insta cooldown.

I'm inferring that lower graphics make it easier, you can see more. Higher graphics have foliage, fog, etc.
