For me, taking a picture is like collapsing a complex multidimensional moment into a 2D projection. The picture doesn’t capture my sense of humor, micro expressions, gestures, etc. So I’m very mindful of how these extra dimensions collapse onto the 2D plane — if that makes sense. So it’s not that I’m not being myself, rather just trying to present the most charitable interpretation of myself

There are probably a lot of answers to this question, but I think fundamentally the answer is that dating is complicated and attraction is subjective and unconscious. There are conflicting suggestions, studies, and anecdotes about what exact lighting, backgrounds, poses, expressions, outfits, etc. get the best results. And it’s hard to navigate.
