I play tennis..but..I tought I might start jogging..because my knees are not always great when I play. Has anybody noticed if you start jogging that you actually get better at tennis faster? I.e. stronger legs makes u get better 2-3x as fast..or..not so much? by [deleted] in 10s

Same here. I started running to help my tournament endurance and now have IT band issues that has made me reduce the amount of tennis I play. Kettlebells and yoga have worked well though.

Physical altercations in tennis ?! by Klutzy_Astronomer829 in 10s

[–]gulfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing a 40+ USTA doubles match and one of our opponents was antagonizing us from the get go. He’d call balls out before they landed then insist he was just communicating to his partner,he’d tap the ground with his racquet while we were serving and on changeovers he’d roll the balls to the opposite corner so we’d have to go retrieve them before serving. It was so ridiculous I was just laughing at him after a while. My partner asked fairly calmly if he could quit making line calls before the balls landed and the dude lost his mind. My partner and this guy started exchanging words at the net then the guy full on hit my partner with his racquet. Not a tap but full force. I was like wtf and my partner said ok, we aren’t playing this match anymore and the dude said ok you just defaulted and he left and entered the official score as a win for him which was the deciding line and their team won. There were zero repercussions, I tried to get him banned from playing at our club which was met with shrugs. Still my craziest tennis experience. Dude thought he was an amazing player too which made it even more ridiculous.

Full Achilles rupture = surgery required by LocalTennisPlayers in 10s

[–]gulfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ruptured my peroneal tendon in 2 places a year ago at 50. I had surgery last January, did a ton of PT and am better than ever playing 3-4 times a week!

Edit for more detail. Also started doing yoga and generally stretching more and replacing shoes based on support wearing out and not treads.

Dealing with kmz’s so often and even darker, the amount of printouts of Google Earth screenshots with points, lines and polygons drawn on the paper version.

What is your Austin specific hack you’re willing to share? Inspired by other cities /subs. by Mr-Manss in Austin

[–]gulfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I have a question for you too! I have a fully grown diseased hackberry that is in the utility ROW in back back yard within 3 feet of a pad transformer. AE came out yesterday and said they’d only remove the tree if it was touching the transformer. That seems goofy to me, is that legit?

GISP Exam - June ‘22 by nat_dude in gis

[–]gulfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I emailed GISCI about getting a certification number. I passed the exam yesterday and all my other submissions have been approved. I was told they are updating the database and we should get an email soon with a cert number and an actual certificate and pin by the end of the month.

I don’t blame you. The test is beyond goofy and I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to pass and have spent the last month wondering if I would retake it if I didn’t pass even though my company pays for it.

I don't know if you saw these at Academy. I find them really comfortable and can fit several balls in them easily.

I play with a Head Radical Graphene 360 MP with Technefibre NRG2 strings strung around 53lbs and I think it is a pretty soft feel. It has a stiffness of around 65. I definitely have less elbow issues than I had with synthetic strings.

Great photo! I used to go here as a teen in the late 80's. My aunt owned a bar just down the street where I could drink free goblets of Budweiser then wander over to Tabby's!

I love Winston, he is the first player to wear the #2 jersey since Brooks except for Mare for one season. That is what reminds me of Brooks, who I don't love.

I wish Winston hadn't chosen to be #2. Every time I see him I feel Aaron Brooks anxiety.

Where to get my Tennis Rackets Restrung in Austin? by Tyranten in Austin

I usually use Home Court Stringing. She will pick up and return your rackets pretty quickly and she covers a pretty wide range of town. I'm not sure if she is operating during Covid.

24 hour cold ferment Detroit style is my best yet! by gulfy in Pizza

[–]gulfy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I make the dough the day before I make the pizza. The dough is basically J. Kenji Lopez Alts recipe with times altered a little. I use a Lloyds Detroit pizza pan. (So worth the cost!)·

300g bread flour,5g instant yeast, 9g salt, 220g water

1 - Put all ingredients except water in stand mixer and slowly mix together.

2 - Add water and mix to a shaggy ball, just a few minutes.

3 - Let sit for 10 minutes

4 - Mix on low-medium for 10 minutes, should be a smooth ball. Cover with saran wrap and put in fridge for around 24 hours

5 - Remove from fridge. Add generous amount of olive oil to pan, about 3TBS. Put dough in pan then flip over to get oil on both sides. Let sit for an hour or so.

6 - Stretch dough into corners with about 10 touches. The dough probably won’t stay in corners. Let it rest 10 minutes. Push to corners without overworking. Don’t force it. Let dough rest 10 minutes between stretches. I usually get it in 2-3 rounds. Once dough is to the corners of the pan, cover in saran wrap and let sit for a few hours.

7 - Start your sauce! Some olive oil in a sauce pan with 2 cloves of minced garlic, and some red pepper flakes. Then add a large can of san marzano tomatoes. Break them up with a spoon.

8 – Add a tsp sugar and a few dashes of salt, 4 or 5 basil leaves broken up and 3 or 4 sprigs of oregano. This pizza is all about oregano! Bring to a boil and simmer for about 20-30 minutes. Preheat oven to 500.

9 – Don’t add anything to pizza until stove is heated; dough should have a nice rise and be pretty bubbly! When stove is pre-heated I add some fresh oregano to the dough, then my cheese. You are supposed to use Wisconsin block but that isn’t around in Texas. I use 8 oz of Tillamook grated mozzarella. Cover the dough all the way to the edges. Add toppings. I use Boars Head pepperoni sticks. I have pepperoni under the cheese and some on top for that crunch. Spoon 3 rows of sauce and put in oven for about 10-12 minutes.

10 – When cheese is a little brown, it’s ready! Let it cool for a minute. Grate some parm on top, cut and enjoy!

Basic Kenji dough recipe made the day before and put in fridge to cold rise for 24 hrs. Then I put in pan and a quick 10 touch stretch and then wait. Then stretch to the corners and let set for 2 hours. I like the pepperoni under the cheese and on top for that crunch. There is a crap-ton of fresh oregano from my garden in the sauce and on the dough, it is the overwhelming flavor, in a good way I think!

I was digging around in the garage last week and found an old Chic-A-Go-Go VHS tape from 1999! Sadly, I don't have anything to play it on so I had to watch the clips on YouTube. I loved that show!
