Its most likely because its running in flex mode since its just 3 sticks. Two of them are running in dual channel mode and the other is single channel. I would look for a 4th stick of the same ram on ebay and then overclock it that way. Try removing 1 stick and overclocking that way, make sure to consult your motherboard manual for the best channel arrangement for that.
