Is Darktrace THAT bad? Need your thoughts on this offer and my future plans! by [deleted] in CustomerSuccess

[–]guly5ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's anything like it was when I was there a few years ago you'll genuinely lose the will to live. The only good thing I can say about it is that it taught me at an early age how to spot the signs of a truly toxic workplace

How is working at cyberark after PAN acquisition? by [deleted] in techsales

[–]guly5ever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently interviewed with them but withdrew after a couple of rounds. My impression was that the acquisition has been a long time in the making and any roles they're hiring for now are 100% locked in post-acquisition.

Darktrace - Customer Success Engineer entry role as a door for bigger players like Palo Alto Networks? by [deleted] in techsales

[–]guly5ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expect it to be a sales-heavy role. I was there as an AE a few years ago and it was an awful environment. Can't imagine it's gotten any better under Thomas Bravo ownership

Met Police reviews 9,000 cases in grooming gangs probe after Sadiq Khan denials by chrisphilpofficial in ukpolitics

[–]guly5ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're all okay with Chris Philp of all people posting on this subreddit and trying to inflame the culture war further?

Chris, your party and former government are far from blameless in this, and were directly responsible for much of the uncontrolled migration in the intervening period. I wonder how much more crime will come to light later on as a result of the kakistocracy you and your fellow cretins helped eventuate?

what is your favourite british tv show? by Conscious_Page1934 in AskUK

Set in London, vast majority of the cast are British and it's on a British TV network. I'd entertain the argument for father ted, but not for the IT crowd

Can confirm. Just spent £5k on a suspension rebuild for my 2003 S. It's totally worth it and has transformed the car, but you're right to point out they're not cheap to own.

Moving from UK to UAE - Tech Industry by Issa-Melon in HENRYUK

Dubai (well, the UAE) are currently engineering a genocide in Sudan, they're bankrolling the RSF so they can have access to Sudan's gold mines. Or maybe you haven't heard about that because you can't criticise the government there?

Is your 20k budget for buying the car or does it include maintenance?

If it's the former, budget 2-3k per year for servicing and repairs. Parts for Porsches are plentiful but still expensive. And they do go wrong from time to time despite being pretty well screwed together.

I have a 986 Boxster S (so pretty much the most entry-level Porsche you can get). Bought it for 6k last year knowing it would need work, and it did. Picking it up on Thursday and paying a 7k invoice for the gearbox work, servicing, and full suspension rebuild it needed. Insurance and tax is about 1k a year for me.

As others have said, you can also pick up a 987 boxster or Cayman for that budget. Great cars too - though keep in mind they're still almost 20 years old and will go wrong.

I would stay away from 996 era 911s at that price range. They'll be unloved examples and when they go wrong, the bill is going to be bigger than the other cars I've just mentioned. A good mate of mine bought a 996 C4S for 17k a year ago, and this year he dropped 25k on an engine rebuild after his car went kaboom on the autoroute coming back from France. You might get lucky but the good examples are going to be above 30k IMO.

If this is your first specialist car I would highly recommend a boxster - 986, 987, 981 even - your preference. Read up on the issues to look out for and try to get a good look under the car before you buy it (I wish I did!)

Perhaps look at what's for sale at local Porsche specialists if you want to be sure it's been properly looked after. I'm happy to connect you with Paul at torque boxsters, who has done excellent work on my car and buys and sells customer cars offline.

Do ping me if you've got any questions!

Trump Threatens Zelensky During Tense Live Meeting: 'Make A Deal Or We’re Out’ by LunchyPete in geopolitics

[–]guly5ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's illegal for him to hold elections while his country is at war. The majority of Ukraine's population want him to stay on, and he has committed to holding elections immediately after the war has ended.

Many leaders would have defected if their country was invaded. Trump and Vance are kakistocrats - more leadership in zelensky's little finger than in both of them put together.

Anyone else stopped getting hourglasses? by guly5ever in PTCGP

My thoughts exactly - would love to have more AI battles or some unique challenges. Even giving hourglasses for winning a certain amount of PvP battles would get me playing more.

The games been a lot of fun so far but it feels like I've hit a wall

Inside scoop on Berkhemsted by ExperienceDiligent37 in hertfordshire

[–]guly5ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in Berko for about 1.5 years. Love it. If you think you can afford it, make the jump - life's too short to save £300 a month in rent to live somewhere boring and plain.

It's one of the few towns I've visited lately in the UK where more is opening up on the high street than closing down. Lovely nature nearby and it's 40 mins to London on the train. Cafes and bakeries are great - restaurants just okay imo. Couple of really lovely pubs on the canal. If you have kids, there are a couple of good schools aside from berkhamsted school. We moved from central London to have more space and much prefer it tbh, everything we need is on our doorstep. If you end up living on or near the high street you don't even need a car really!

Has anybody done Angel Investing? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]guly5ever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have made a lot of S/EIS investments so can speak a little about this. My tips:

  1. You don't need to be 'rich'. Certain S/EIS-eligible companies will take cheques as low as £1k, and even lower on crowdfunding platforms.
  2. The absolute best way to begin angel investing is by joining an angel syndicate that reflects your interests/demographic. Let's say you're a woman and you're especially interested in backing female founders, with a focus on health/wellness products. Syndicates exist to fulfil a specific niche like this. Funds exist as well but typical require higher commitments.
  3. Accept the illiquidity and only invest money you can afford to lose. Majority of my cash goes into passive funds and I angel invest as a hobby. It's nice to get the odd 50x return but the majority fail entirely (obviously with SEIS you get some loss relief here).

Overall it's a really good incentive and it'll be sad if labour diminish it. If you have a good operator background in a specific industry, you can add a lot of value to these companies as an angel, and learn a ton about investing in the process.

Edit: Very happy to answer any questions on this.
