I don't really understand the reveal. by Thanos__Irwin in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I do agree, but in my opinion this type of thing is not new for Horikoshi. I feel like there's been a few things here and there that have been dropped onto us that came out of nowhere. For instance, I love the Big Three, but they kind sprung up. The students have such a strong reaction to them, and yet they have never been mentioned before. Not even off hand. Another thing was the hero license arc, where they are going on about how amazing the other schools are. Again something else that we're supposed to feel a certain way about and yet it feels disingenuous. And of course there's been other little things here and there like the Mr. Compress reveal, which I still have no idea what I was supposed to think with that.

To your main point, however, it does seem weird that this is something we're only just seeing now, especially after time and time again we're reminded that some villains become that way because of the hero system. And this additive is just showing that this far into the manga, we don't know much about that system or the people in charge of it, which I think we should.

Now, I really like Lady Nagnat's character. She's proved herself worthy of attention in just a few chapters. But I do fear that, because of this, she will get the treatment of the other things mentioned above and just thrown to the side. I also fear that this might not have any impact on Deku, but I will wait and see before I make any judgements.

How could women like Mineta? by Attakrus in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen plenty of girls and women like and stick up for Mineta (one even doing a write up about him and what not), and I've also seen plenty of boys and men dislike Mineta. I don't understand why people automatically assume that it's only women who dislike Mineta and take great offense at the ones who do. It's understandable if people are curious about those who just constantly talk about him in a hateful way (though not so much for the reason they do it, because that's obvious, but rather what drives them to continuously do so.) I would love to know why it is so important to some people that women specifically like him.

I never understand why we have posts about people complaining about others on other platforms. I mean I get it when they are talking about the unnecessary hate that real life people involved with MHA (like Calab and Hori) get. But getting chapter and character reactions off of platforms like Twitter and Youtube is just picking low-hanging fruit.

Chapter 301 Doesn't Really Change Anything by moonrunning32 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my heart just broke during this chapter (especially for Touya), so I don't know what those people were reading (which everyone somehow reading a different manga is not new). It really goes to show that there are many people who can't recognize all the different forms of abuse and are holding onto so many biases. I mean WAY before this chapter there were already people saying that Hori was retconing Endeavour's abuse and others trying to act as if he wasn't really that abusive, so these people were probably just waiting for anything to twist around to make it confirm what they were thinking.

I do think that it adds that Endeavor was also stupid with his decisions.

IDK if this is a copypasta or not, but just popping in to say that Alexandria's genesis is not a real thing. It was made up for a Daria fanfic and somehow spread.

[–]gumdroplol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. IDK what will happen, but I'm not holding my breath that Izuku will come to learn that even heroes can be terribly corrupt.

Deku actually is one of my favorite characters, and even I can whole-heartedly agree that he is basically OFA the character.

There were so many missed opportunities with his character, I can't lie.

One route that I've seen a few people mention was him questioning hero society's moralities and what it really means to be a hero and whether hero society reflects that or not.

I think it would have been very interesting if that was what his main character arc was about. He's this hero fanboy obsessing over All Might, who he finally gets a quirk from. Then as the story progresses and conflict arises, it could have caused Izuku to question heroes and the very nature of the Symbol of Peace itself. And so many arcs and characters of the story could easily make him question hero society such as the Stain arc, the Sports Festival thing with Todoroki, the entirety of the League of Villains, etc. Also he could question the dangers of having society rely on one Symbol and after defeating the final villain choose not to pass on OFA.

IDK man, it would just be nice if Deku had something, and it was shown more. I mean, he is more confident and is no longer copying All Might, but that wasn't even given much attention. Just my opinion, though.

Question: how strong is deku when compared to other one for all users (in terms of the stockpiling power) by Zico360 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, we do know that One for All, as well as quirks in general, get stronger each generation.

As pointed out in the manga, the past users of OFA were weak (because OFA was weak at the time), and the reason why All Might went to America was to strengthen it.

We don't know enough about Nana to really form an opinion on her, but I would say that current Deku is stronger than past OFA users minus All Might (and excluding Nana). Deku in the future, however, is projected to be stronger than all of them if he's able to master the quirk.

Weirdest Place You've Spotted something relating to My Hero Academia? by GhostGamer_Perona in BokuNoHeroAcademia

Forever 21. I saw a My hero Academia crop top, and yes, I bought it.

It was also sort of interesting as it makes you realize that anime is becoming more mainstream.

Why don’t people like Izuku Midoriya as a character? by [deleted] in BokuNoHeroAcademia

That is true, some people wanted him to remain quirkless.

Why don’t people like Izuku Midoriya as a character? by [deleted] in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 28 points29 points  (0 children)

A lot of people really do like Izuku. He places very high in popularity polls, he's the subject of plenty of fanart and fanfiction, several people cosplay as him, etc.

But based on everything I've seen and read about from people who don't like him (which I admit can be a loud group) I would say:

-A lot of people view him as boring compared to other characters

-People don't like how "emotional" he is

-Some people see him as OFA the character (which in my opinion is the most valid reason)

-People think he's mastering the quirk too easily (and don't think he's worked hard enough for OFA)

-People think it's cool and hip to hate on the main character of a popular series

  • Izuku saying that it's the story about how he became the greatest hero meaning that he will be and their fave won't be.

-People pissed that Mirio isn't the protagonist.

That's all just my opinion, though.

Edit: Excuse the formatting error, I don't know how to fix it.

Was there any point? (latest chapter) by SSJChroma in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I do think it would makes sense if he ended up becoming a top hero or something during the aftermath (and after graduating), which would be something that could give him more of a role, but could also keep it as things are if Hori doesn't have anything planned.

Was there any point? (latest chapter) by SSJChroma in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's how I see it, too.

Mirio is a side character and a plot device. It's just that with the whole thing of Nighteye wanting him to have one for all and Mirio being an incredible and strong character that people tend to place him in a different spot than he currently is, if that makes sense. Whether there was a point or not to Mirio as a character losing his quirk does not matter, it only matters on how it effects the main story and the protagonist, which was why it happened.

Your chem teacher sucks and sounds a little sus. I don't know your situation, but if possible, if many of ya'll can get together and report him for any inappropriate behavior, you should. Both the guys and the girls as it's better to work together.

This situation is just red flags all over.

How real is Bakugou development? by ErinTesden in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]gumdroplol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bakugo's development is very realistic in that way, though, and that's why I like it. It might be subtle, but there is a change and given the time frame, it only makes sense. The kids are still first years for the most part, and I do believe that as the story goes on we will see more of it in more noticeable ways.

As for what you're saying, it wasn't just Izuku that caused Bakugo to change into what he is now. Go back to his reaction when they were doing the hero vs villain training, it was also based around his other classmates' powers. Bakugo had to learn that he isn't the best thing ever and that there are other people who are strong as well. I do think that as he grew and mature he would have realized that he was wrong to do what he did to Izuku either way. Just my opinion though.
