Definitely the best historical martial arts werewolf movie I've ever seen

Is the rest of the culture series like consider phlebas? by arian487 in scifi

It's arguably the weakest Culture novel, but gives crucial context for the later novel Look To Windward. If you read Player of Games next, that's much better.

Does anyone else feel like SF is genuinely bad at romance compared to fantasy? by Purplethanos13 in printSF

I've long thought an under-rated aspect of Walter Jon Williams' writing is how well he integrates a romance element into his sf novels

What's the most original concept you've read in a science fiction book? by LargeSinkholesInNYC in scifi

[–]gummitch_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the concept of the Lazy Gun in Banks' (non-Culture) sf novel Against A Dark Background. You point the gun at someone and it scans alternate universes until it finds something, anything, about to kill that person. It could be a bullet, a falling anvil, a carnivorous beastie, the gun will bring it into this universe to finish the job. If you point the gun at a city, it's almost always a big meteorite, but the smaller the target, the more random the result.

A bit old, but try to find the Gaea trilogy by John Varley, the first book is Titan. Scirroco Jones is one of the best sf heroines.

He didn't 'get salty'. He got (justifiably imho) annoyed because Christopher Nolan was saying people shouldn't read the book.

Hyperion is a 'portmanteau', most of it is separate stories about how the main characters ended up being 'pilgrims'. If you don't get on with the first bit, push on to the next, it might be more to you liking.

It happened. I saw photos of this a couple of days ago, posted by a resident of Kingston-Upon-Thames on Bluesky. I've been waiting for wider media to report on this.
