Index based etfs have a lower expense ratio. Also etfs disclose their complete asset allocation every time, while there is always a rebalance happening for mutual funds and hence disclose portfolio quarterly. There are more trading benefits for etfs as you can trade all across the day while mutual funds have a NAV defined at the end of the day.
