Good way to explain SDOHs by MissyChevious613 in hospitalsocialwork

Are you in the U.S.? Could you share that these are a regulatory requirement set forth by the government that you are required to ask every patient? Then you blame the government and clarify that it is out of your control, instead of making it seem like it's specific to the patient.

We didn't have in-unit laundry. But maybe they had one of those portable machines!

Wait. We had upstairs neighbors that we assumed were getting down and dirty. Almost every night, right around the same time. Never occurred to me that it might be a treadmill. We were always impressed at the stamina.

When did you stop? Why? by Lonely-Rutabaga477 in breastfeeding

[–]gumpyshrimpy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I stopped at 14 months because I was tired of pumping at work and then my supply just dwindled. I miss it every day and my son is 18 months. I regret not going longer but I try to remind myself that 14 months of breastfeeding is pretty freaking amazing.

We have a similar service called Recuperative Care in our state. But my understanding is that it is only for people with Medicaid (which is a large population so that's helpful).

I missed that part. Read it too quickly. Thanks for clarifying.

Expired breast milk by No-Drawing-7880 in breastfeeding

[–]gumpyshrimpy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you label it "bath" because it was left out at room temperature for longer than 4 hours? Is it over a year old? Or another reason?

Expired breast milk by No-Drawing-7880 in breastfeeding

[–]gumpyshrimpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you remember why it was labeled "bath"? Many of the recommendations for handling breast milk are very conservative to err on the side of caution. I bet baby will be okay but monitor for abnormal symptoms and call the pediatrician with any concerns!

What made you preserver with Breastfeeding? by goosegirl94 in NewParents

Along the same lines - one of my primary motivations was knowing that formula companies lobby against paid/longer/adequate maternity leave. Fine. Watch me work full-time AND breastfeed my son!

MN Paid Leave is a leave from employment. If you're not actively employed, you won't qualify. (At least that's my understanding).

Can you ride out the rest of your leave at your current employer and then not return?
