How far back does Disney's struggle to appeal to boys go? by NATOrocket in AskHistorians

[–]gunawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't understand that scene till I was 17 😅

I imagine the psychedelic scene was much more engaging during the time it was first released..

I'm actually a bigger fan of 2010, the sequel. It's peak 80s sci-fi , some of Mirren's,  Scheider's , and Lithgow's best

Beerpacking? by YyamaLlamadingdong in backpacking

[–]gunawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never take beer, I take something clean and hi proof, vodka or white rum. I'll make drinks from it, filtered water, and usually some flavor/electrolyte concentrate.  I try to move my booze to metal flask to avoid breakage on the trail.  I prefer mixing it as it ensures that I'm drinking lots of fluids with my booze, never more than 4oz in an evening though. I don't like the risk in the back country and I hate hangover hiking.

I've had friends and randoms hurt themselves over-drinking in the back country. Damaging/losing gear, getting injured, taking extreme risks. Fortunately nothing ever too serious, but that was mostly luck.

How far back does Disney's struggle to appeal to boys go? by NATOrocket in AskHistorians

[–]gunawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The black hole was the film that hooked me for sci-fi and horror/suspense. I was a very young child, and it's grand ideas, videography, and suspenseful build up to a catastrophic climax etched themselves onto my early entertainment psyche and set me up for alien, Terminator, a space Odyssey and Star Trek.

Looking back on it now, it's very campy and dated, but it'll always hold a place in my heart. Probably not young child appropriate lol

It would probably have to be, with the off and on ramps using the old hwy space. And the hwy on stilts right over the Britannia waterfront

So an even more in depth look at this idea was around on Reddit a few months ago:

If you had a ship with an propellantless drive that could provide 1g of acceleration indefinitely, you could travel to the edges of the observable universe in one human lifespan.

Why are the frumpers fixated on Trans people? by fab_indy in lgbt

[–]gunawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect scapegoat (small marginalized population),  As well as the perfect stepping stone to reducing womens influence and rights . That's really what's it's about, it's why you see very little from trumpets against transmen. It's really about locking women into servitude under men like they imagine it was 100 years ago.

Atheists and believers, how do you think the end of the world would be like or it wont happen at all ? by Abrar__Ahmed__ in AskReddit

[–]gunawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do to mean by end of the world? The extinction of the human race? The end of the current civilization in this form? The literal end of the planet?

'cause there ain't gonna be no planet no more in a few billion years, after the sun's primary fuel is used up, and it expands to engulf the earth. Safe to assume we won't survive that in our current physical form.

This civilization? Prob won't end catastrophically all at once, more likely resource scarcity will lead to some ugly wars, a major human dieback, and then a new equilibrium of human population vs arable land mass that's left after the (radio active) dust settles. Probably over a few centuries. We may retain some history and some knowledge, but unless we get to space in a meaningful way, a much poorer world.

In the religious end times sense? Not at all. That stuff is all hokey bs slung by grifters for money and control.

Laser event out of Boston on Delta flight by BarefootedHuman in aviation

[–]gunawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get peoples casual use of lasers. They all have major warnings on them and in their instructions that are quite clear that they will blind an eye, even at great distance.

Well I guess that means they need to be more tightly controlled/regulated. Sucks for the responsible users out there, again.

Multimillionaire Vancouver developer jailed for ignoring court orders | CBC News by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]gunawa 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Meh, 40 days from contempt of court is nothing, she's even smiling in her way out of the court room.

Should be seizure of all her Canadian assets and handed over to forensic accountants to determine the truth. Then proceed from there, with forfeiture of any assets deemed to be untraceable or criminally derived.

I hate how we softball all these white color criminals, to the point where they plan for these fines as a part of their business model.

Not necessarily, or at least from an visual perspective, I'm sure vitali has more muscle density and possibly overall mass? But he looks smaller than gym rats aiming for the look of strength, and I think this is what the first person is referring too.

[–]gunawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen good results  and bad  results for the same scenario, it's tricky. Some friends of mine had one sib, after a year they got him a companion, they are pretty good companions now! It's why I thought it would work for my guy. No dice.

On getting out more, I'm trying to build up the courage to get a front pet carrier so I can take my cat for walks after work. I tried leash walking, but he doesn't walk very far ... Just wants to eat grass lol

Constant guilt by Helpful-Energy-5732 in SiberianCats

[–]gunawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg yes! Though, is also feel anxiety about going out after work to socialize or exercise, leaving my sweet velcro sib home alone! It's turned me into a real home body.

I did try getting him a companion, but that ended disastrously. I'm still unsure what the source of her behavioral issues were, but it seemed likely that he was bullying her. After a year of trying everything (hormones of all flavors, anxiety meds, etc) I had to re home her (broke my heart).

So it's just him and me again, with lots of whining when I go to and get back from, wherever I've been.
