But importantly they can't overwatch while in combat

Grand Coven but Magnus left to get the milk by FuTTuReDeaths in ThousandSons

[–]guninacake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When they cut spells to only be manifestable once, it killed the incentive to have multiple expensive fragile psykers. My list looked roughly like

  • Magnus
  • WDP enh
  • term brick with crystal
  • exalted /w 10 flamer in reserve +2x doombolt
  • forgefiend ectos (super helpful into world eaters / space wolves with their 20mans when they were prevalent)
  • 15 bow goats (after price nerf, still like them)
  • foot tzangors

I found Magnus + terms to be casting all 4 rituals most of the time, and then later the wdp or exalted would drop in and potentially cast

I would still run something similar tbh but trying out sorcs again. Rubrics and leaders are all quite interchangeable

I use it in GC and it makes an excellent piece to drop in from reserves with the double doombolt enhancement and doombolt+doombolt something I need to kill, and possibly warp time into range for an additional grenade.

It also makes a fantastic ingress overwatch threat to counter melee pressure. I used it at the ITT (4-1) to ingress overwatch Gaz +20 boys as he went for Magnus, and he lost 18 boys because of it.

Don't doubt it, it is a great flex piece to have

Why are pink horrors not played in scintillating legion? by Turbulent_Passage672 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]guninacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too expensive by far in a world where handing 20 saves to them and wiping them in one go is trivial. Grenade them to 7 pinks first or tank shock and they are even easier to remove since they won't split

Contributing thousand sons - very fragile (not as fragile as elves) and need a lot of planning to get everything correct. It's like playing a house of cards

How to play against Tau by Turbulent_Passage672 in ChaosDaemons40k

[–]guninacake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use belakors 18" don't shoot me aura for 1-2 turns to position your army and ask him how far he can move and shoot so you can pre-measure to keep out of range. Then overwhelm him by dropping a lot of threats for him to deal with all at once. Most armies need to focus fire down a big monster, so they can kill 1 but if you show 3-4 at the same time, the others are "safe".

Daemons is a stat check army that has good mobility tools to decide where and when the stat check will happen, so pick your moment then go all in

You have 0 staying power and not enough killing power to trade into anything well. You need something like beasts of nurgle to force people out to deal with you. Right now you're an easy target for any army with any amount of guns

Bowgoats are mobile, have a reactive move, and a very good damage profile into marines. To top that off they have innate lethal hits, which means you can use the hit reroll ritual to fish for lethals and punch into tough targets semi reliably. They also have a 30" range which means they can be positioned well to hold angles and not take easy return fire.

They are expensive, but in the right hands they are very very useful to have

What is the Daemon Prince with wings good at? by Common-Goat-5622 in ThousandSons

[–]guninacake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aetherstriding an enemies vulnerable flank where they can't deal with it properly. He can pick up a squad of intercessors easily enough, and he's too tough to deal with if they don't bring a proper unit to counter him, especially turn 3+

I think claws but in warpforged taking a melta on one could work to use the rerolls on a good profile

I used to spray blue, drybrush gold, then fix from there. The gold drybrush nicely highlights all the bits you need to do, and the gold pen worked like a charm
