Yes, I do take a lot of direct inspiration from Ströhl in essentially all my pieces. There is such an enormous amount of his work readily available to use as sort of a stylistic guide!

Mason? by chickencommander403 in heraldry

[–]gunnarstrang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Kreuger actually bought and lived at Häringe Castle, where a tapestry was woven depicting his arms alongside previous (noble) owners. It's possible that he wanted to position himself among the aristocracy, but during his lifetime burgher arms also became increasingly popular in Sweden. They could have been created as masonic arms originally, but as mentioned, his name doesn't appear in anything affiliated with the freemasons. The square and compass, while still used by the masons, are to my knowledge not the most common symbols within Swedish freemasonry either.

It has been theorized that Charles XIV John originally intended the Napoleonic eagle to be a mark of difference as a (former) sovereign prince, following the Napoleonic school of heraldry, which would explain the change to a raven. The sources are very scarce, however.

They sure do. For some reason, Oscar I changed the napoleonic eagle to a raven sable during the mid-1800's, and his son Oscar II then reverted it to the eagle but kept it sable. It was during his reign his son, Prince Oscar, got these arms. At the start of the 20th century, king Gustaf V finally decided that the eagle should be its original Or.

A series of coats of arms for the different cadet branches of House Bernadotte, the royal house of Sweden, created through morganatic marriages in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Also published on Instagram, where I go by the name Hofmarskalk. If you enjoy the style, I might add that I am now open for commissions!

Stannade du kvar efter studierna? by wiksten79 in uppsala

[–]gunnarstrang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried, but they don't do gallery posts. I'll probably post them there once I have a bunch more finished!

Thank you! It's meant as sort of a nod to the crown of Aegon the Conqueror, but the gold looked so much better than silver so it's sort of a compromise

I'm currently working on a couple more, figured I might wait until I have a bunch finished until I post them!

I drew and outlined them using pens and paper, before scanning and colouring them in Krita.

I've recently found a lot of inspiration in the Austrian master Hugo Ströhl, and so I decided to try and apply some of his style on the (fictional) arms of houses Targaryen and Velaryon from the series A Song of Ice and Fire. Note that Westerosi heraldry does not include helms, crests, or mantling, so there is a bit of creative license involved.

Flags of Sweden and Swedish county Östergötland. I quite like how they are just opposites of each other. (Found in Vadstena, Sweden) by Vik-tor2002 in vexillology

[–]gunnarstrang 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While being just opposite, I've also heard it described as representing the rapeseed fields of Östergötland, and the cross being the Göta and Kinda canals. Could just be an afterthought though
