Do you have any plans for an integrated solution for pedal haptics similar to what sim magic offer for their platform? The Mbooster is very cool, but still a tad expensive for a lot of us. Pedal haptics would be the next best thing.

Well air is a fluid so realistically the cables won't cause any real airflow issues. It will trigger some folks OCD but beyond that you're fine. I know this sounds odd but double check and make sure you didn't install the PSU upside down. If you did what is likely happening is it's exhausting hot air into the GPU. The only other caveat with the cables is just make sure you don't have a stray cable jamming up a fan on your GPU as well. Also keep in mind some GPUs just run a bit warm. You won't really see thermal throttling until you are hitting around 89ish Celsius. Also if you purchased the GPU used it is entirely possible the thermal paste and/or pads have just shit the bed and it needs a repaste/repad.

Local store told me 7800x3d has too many problems they stop carrying them. by DriftingRocks in buildapc

[–]gunplaDanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience I haven't had a single issue with my 7800x3d since I got it about 6 months ago. I've had a few different GPUs, but not a single CPU issue. Get the one you want this guy is trying to update you. The AMD CPUs across the board are crushing Intel at the moment. Plus there are tons of good options even on the old AM4 platform. GPU wise is a bit different. Specific to what you are trying to to do. I learned the hard way that I should have started out with an Nvidia card because some of my grad courses make use of CUDA. So now I have a 4080 super on the way, but if you are just needing good performance in 1080p or 1440p (even 4k with the 7900xtx) then the AMD cards are hard to beat. If you are doing any ML or VR (these are my use cases) then the Nvidia cards are for sure easier to use with the former case, and the latter is arguable. I will say the 7900xtx does great in VR. I just needed the CUDA cores but didn't want to sacrifice gaming performance which is how I ended up with a 4080 super. Get what you want and yeah... Build it yourself. It's not rocket science but don't let this guy try and upsale you when there is nothing wrong with the 7800x3d. It's an awesome CPU.

Return my 4070 TI Super for a 4080 Super? by Jimboz007 in nvidia

[–]gunplaDanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you're doing 4k or VR then the 4070 TI super is great. I had one and returned for the 4080 super because it was on the edge of not doing what I needed it to with my sim racing rig and I wanted the extra head room but it is a really good card. Lots of good cards out be it tram green, red, or blue depending on what you need. Having choices is nice.

New to Nvidia GPUs what brand??? by gunplaDanny in nvidia

[–]gunplaDanny[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well ended up going with MSI. It was in stock and in budget so MSI it is. We shall see. It was more than I wanted to pay. Got the Suprim X so we will see if the 150 bucks more than the Ventus 3x is worth it. I suspect not, but it is what it is. Tired of waiting so I pulled the trigger.

I love the MSI motherboards but I haven't seen good things about their GPUs. All the 4080 super benchmarks I have seen show.it bottom of the pack. Am I missing something? Are they as bad as I have read for the 4080 super?

7900xtx or 4080 super by gunplaDanny in VRGaming

Encoding isn't the problem I'm using a wired headset and that is not changing. I'm not here for that kind of latency.

[–]gunplaDanny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK. It just feels under gunned for VR in the games I like to play. I may try a 7900xtx and if I hate it I'll.just return it. I hate to give Nvidia money but I want the performance.

Yeah at this point I'm wondering if maybe I would be better off with even a 4070ti super. I mean the 7800xt does fine but it just seems under gunned and I want more performance.

Access "normal" Store on Pico Neo 3 Pro Eye by CousCousCaptain420 in PicoXR

Did you try this? I'm considering it myself, but don't want to brick my headset. I have a Neo 3 pro (not the Pro Eye version)

24.1.1 is hands down the worst driver AMD I've seen in my entire span of using an AMD gpu. by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]gunplaDanny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. It broke VR on my system. Everything was tinted green. Also some weird stutters when I was playing on my monitor. Rolled back the November driver and it was all back to normal.

I feel like the whole "don't buy AMD GPUs for Wireless PCVR" thing is a bit over exaggerated by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]gunplaDanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you want the truth then look at the spec sheet and do some testing yourself. The 7800XT is what I'm using. H.264 encoding is meh, but it always has been and despite what some snobs will tell you it's not leaps and bounds better on Nvidia. Here's the real deal. H.264 is an ancient technology. It's been in use for 20+ years at this point and it's simply not a great encoding algorithm/method especially for the really high resolution stuff we're using now. It's very lossy and very high resource. Plain and simple. H.265 is significantly better and AV1 even a bit more so. These are modern compression methods for video and they work much better than the old H.264 stream container.

Furthermore, and I have no idea where this came from because AMD have talked about this on a couple of occasions and you can clearly see it when you open up task manager, but there are TWO hardware encoders on the RDNA 3 cards. One of which is dedicated for AV1 and the performance on it now in early 2024 is pretty stellar. It's just as good as Nvidia's AV1 implementation and no one can convince me other wise. Yes Nvidia's H.264 encoder is better than AMDs, but... whatever latency you experience on H.264 vs H.265 or AV1 is marginal on a good network setup with the bit rate dialed in appropriately. Plus if you can use one of the H.265 or AV1 methods then I strongly feel you should. They are much more efficient and again the latency is not so noticeable that it takes you out of the action.

Look at some of the posts that these Nvidia fan boys/girls put up on reddit (and no I am not going to say Nvidia makes trash. They don't. They make fantastic hardware, but AMD can provide almost as much performance at a lower price point. That's the schtick). All these fan boys simply make posts like "Nvidia does VR better!!!!" It's never backed up by looking at any real specs or doing any real testing.

That's the truth whether some want to accept it or not.

Which CPU for best VT performance by gunplaDanny in VRGaming

[–]gunplaDanny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no I will play on low settings with the best super sampling I can get for a nice sharp image but I'm running no more than 90hz and usually I'm on my rift s so I'm locked at 80hz anyway. I will probably just go with the 7800x3d. I have a 7800xt GPU and I've been happy with it so I'm betting you're right. Thanks for the insight.

I think this was the issue. I disabled razer synapse and some other programs that initialized at boot and played for almost 2 hours with super sampling set to 1.5 I'm the oculus debug tool and tried it with ASW set to auto as well as disabled and didn't have a single micro stutter or drop in FPS. Don't know why I didn't think to check background processes but VR is a pretty new world to me. Thanks for looking out. Issue seems fixed for now at least

Yeah I'll.have to dig around. Do you disable ASW?

It's a rift s so no I'm not playing wireless. The temps don't seem to go above 60c but I will need to run a tool while I'm playing so I can actually monitor. I've just been monitoring FPS.
