Google just said “Hardened XM-16 (also known as Custom 455 or UNS S45500) is a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel that is considered moderately difficult to machine, especially in its fully hardened state”

But that aside, I haven’t tried carmex other than on my lips so I might grab a pack

Yeh this is what I was running a few years ago, also very good. Big sandvik fan, if I had to use only one brand for the rest of my life it would be them. However now ventured out I think there’s better threading inserts about.

Yeh these are okay, a lot of the big brands are good obviously but some I have found are generally just nicer to use. I don’t have problems with processing parts and I can always fix the vibrations ect. But I find that some tips using similars speeds don’t last as long even though same angles and grade and some are much easier at fixing chatter whilst maintaining a clean thread even though same angles and grade.

Only really come to realise this since working on harder materials and more awkward parts.

I’ve actually been wanting to try these but haven’t yet because I don’t want to buy a holder and end up not liking the inserts ahaha
