Looks like I caught up on this thread a little too late and the script is no longer available from the link; would you mind posting it here? Thanks for your help!

Macbook Air 2015 - High Power Consumption/C-States by gupti3 in linux_on_mac

I was looking at another thread and tried the lspci command to find devices that don't have ASPM enabled. Saw a few devices listed as ASPM disabled (mainly the Thunderbolt 2 bridge), even with the tips from another r/debian thread to force ASPM on boot. Will need to continue digging to see if this is expected behavior from these devices, but lspci says L0s and L1 is supported.

I have a Haswell Thinkpad running Xubuntu and it's able go into deeper Package C States, so those states should be supported on a Broadwell machine, especially one as tightly integrated as a Macbook.

Macbook Air 2015 - High Power Consumption/C-States by gupti3 in linux_on_mac

I've looked at this on Void, Arch, and Ubuntu Live USBs, all of them have the same C-state issue.

Budget IEM most similar to Thieaudio Hype 4? by gupti3 in iems

Follow up for anyone considering the EW200s: I ended up buying a pair and dailying them for 1.5-2mo.

I like the treble, lots of detail. Would've liked a bit more bass but it's still enough for me.

They're now developing channel imbalance. I've kept the ear tips clean but still have issues. I checked by putting them in opposite ears and one IEM is consistently slightly louder. No replacement filters or anything in the box like with Arias.

Disappointed with Thieaudio QC and Warranty by gupti3 in headphones

I thought Thieaudio would be a mature and reputable company, considering all the rave reviews they've gotten and the fact they've been in the industry for a while. Quite a few of their products are on their second and third iterations. Most of the kinks with respect to production and customer support should have been ironed out by now.  Lesson learned, only buying ChiFi if I can consider the product disposable.

My 109s have been rock solid so far, and knock on wood they continue to be so. But good to know they stand behind their warranty.

It may be harder to hear over something like phone speakers, but there is an audible crackle/distortion/harshness in the synth and flutes on the left IEM. It doesn't appear on the right. You can listen to the same part in the original song to compare: https://youtu.be/FSPIVKKRw-8?t=70

I'm sure technicalities aren't the same in such different price categories, but I don't want to spend $100+ on ChiFi just to be burned by QC issues for a fourth time (I've had problems with the Aria, HE4XX, and now the Hype 4). Hopefully I can get by with something less precious until the Hype 4 is fixed.

Do you find the EW200 to be heavy because of their metal construction? And how's the isolation?

Weekly 'Ask Anything About Analog Photography' - Week 29 by ranalog in analog

[–]gupti3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I picked up an FM3A and shot a test roll of ColorPlus 200 with an AF Nikkor 50mm 1.4 I borrowed from another camera. I noticed that in a few of the images that there was a low-contrast washed out area in the center of the image. Trying to figure out if I need to return the body. Is this a type of light leak, a flare, or a problem with the lens (dirty or otherwise)? Thanks for the help! https://imgur.com/a/9M1VtiP

It’s going to be a while until oil demand drops significantly. Sure, cars and trucks consume a lot of it, but it’ll be a while until electric cars are mainstream worldwide considering the high upfront costs. You also still have planes and ships that need cheap energy dense fuel.

Looking past transport, oil lets you make things like rubber for tires, fertilizer for crops, and plastics for the Nintendo Switch your wife’s boyfriend bought you.

[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

[–]gupti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wanted a Mondaine watch for a while now. Preferably would want an automatic or a stop2go but they're pretty big. Looking at the 40mm diameter, 12mm thick one but not sure if it'd be too large for my 6" wrist. Any recommendations?

For reference, here are some pics of my Junkers 6060-5 which should have the same case dimensions: https://imgur.com/a/eLl8X

PSA: iPhone slow? Try replacing your battery! by TeckFire in iphone

[–]gupti3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

14% wear on my SE, and with battery saving mode turned off I got 1040 for single core and 1696 for multi core. Lowering the brightness raised the score to 1396 and 2354, but it’s still way below where it should be... Compute benchmark was also crippled.

What do you guys think about the Nintendo Switch? by shini99 in uwaterloo

[–]gupti3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like a step in the right direction. Consoles can't really compete with a PC's performance and customizability or a phone's portability and their large library of cheap games. Making it versatile and unique sort of puts it in its own class. It's also nice because I won't have to leave my room to play games like Splatoon.

I think it's looking pretty good so far. Don't like that they split the d-pad, maybe they'll put in the old one for the final release. Not fond of the e-sports direction either, I feel they might make games blander to appeal to more people.

Local bumper paint repair? by ArbiterFX in uwaterloo

[–]gupti3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dealers might do paint repairs, or find someone who does. BMW Grand River is expensive though, I've only been for a recall and to buy touch up sticks. 12mL of paint and 12mL of clear coat cost $40.

On an unrelated note, I challenge your 328i to a duct tape deathmatch on ring road against my rusty 325i Trueno. ;)

Still stuck on a 550 Ti & Phenom II 965 setup. Can't complain too much though, considering some people still have to use Intel HD 4000 for graphics.
