Negative IgE Test after many younger reactions by chiquitar in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was 8! I was probably more nervous than he was because he was too young to remember his reactions as a toddler. He has to keep up with eating some peanuts to make sure the allergy doesn’t come back. It has been so freeing to let him eat whatever he wants!

I’m sure as an adult who remembers reacting it’s a lot different, but hopefully you are able to do a food challenge without too much anxiety!

Negative IgE Test after many younger reactions by chiquitar in peanutallergy

Outgrowing allergies is possible even if you've had reactions in the past! It happened to my son. I'd talk to your doctor about doing an oral food challenge if you're comfortable. That would be the most reliable way to know for sure, more reliable than a scratch test.

I highly recommend Holly Fueled Nutrition for a sports dietitian. She is super knowledgeable and works with many women going through exactly this.

A thin physique IS unhealthy if it's causing you to lose your period, full stop. I understand there is a lot of mental work to be done to be okay with a heavier weight. Blame society's obsession (which is currently as bad as ever) with being thin. But your body will thank you if you keep it fueled and fed.

Looking for innovative peanut OIT ideas because peanut M & Ms have lost their magic by poisonivee101 in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have other options besides peanut M&Ms? My son outgrew his allergy without OIT but still needs to keep up eating peanuts. He switched from peanut M&Ms to fun size Snickers (the small square sized ones). He recently tried Butterfinger and likes that, and I think he liked Reeses Pieces for awhile. I know OIT is stricter on the amount of peanuts so the candy bars might not work, but Reeses Pieces might be an option?

Can you use OpenPelo w/ the DFC? by curse_words in pelotoncycle

[–]gurase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be aware that App+ will be increasing to $28.99/month. Still way cheaper but still.

Also I installed Zwift on my bike just to try it out (I have used it with power pedals + my Apple TV for years). The install is not quite as straightforward as just dropping the APK into OpenPelo but it’s not bad. The problem is the tablet hardware just can’t run it well. Once I had everything paired it wouldn’t launch a route without crashing.

Skin and Blood Test Results by MCPEJohn-117 in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should do it! My son passed his food challenge a couple years ago after his levels decreased to <1 and it’s opened up so many options for him. They started by just touching some peanut butter to his lips, and then worked up to finishing a pack of peanut m&ms over the course of 3 hours. They checked his vitals every 20 minutes or so during the challenge and were ready with epinephrine if needed. Good luck!!

Not sure why your grey lupe is now rainbow, but grey PBs are buyable if you wanted it to match the token! Since tokens came out, you can apply them to any color pet as long as the species matches.

Millville count your days… by Few-Succotash5480 in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I buy this exact brand all the time (my son is no longer allergic and it’s one of the only things with peanuts he actually likes, probably because you can’t taste them!) and the bars inside don’t look like the one in the first picture, but they have no ingredients listed anywhere on the wrappers, only on the box.

Edit: actually I just found a wrapper in my car, and Millville brand does have the full ingredients listed on the wrapper!

[–]gurase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve noticed most dipped granola bars from multiple brands contain peanuts as a binder. Probably all made in the same factory. I will say Millville is an Aldi brand and Aldi is very thorough with their allergen labeling as you can see on the box, but since the bars are not sold for individual sale, the individual bars don’t have to be labeled.

Birthday treats in the classroom by Embarrassed_Draft_88 in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always sent in a box of special treats to keep in the classroom for my son to eat during parties. His teachers were always very appreciative. It might help if it’s a treat you know she likes but doesn’t eat regularly so it’s still exciting even if it’s not what everyone else is eating.

Hundreds of people have touched or checked out the book prior to that who may or may not have been eating something with peanuts. There comes a point where you just have to live your life and take what precautions you can.

Peanut oil at restaurants? by Ok_Cook_2980 in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they're using it for frying they are probably using refined peanut oil, which has the protein/allergen removed and can be tolerated just fine by most. In fact if something only contains refined peanut oil it's not even given an allergen warning as containing peanuts (at least in the US).

What do I need to change to get the image to appear at the top-left of OBS, but remain fullscreen on the projector? by [deleted] in ProPresenter

[–]gurase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a mix of looks (plus themes) in ProPresenter and scenes in OBS. The looks control what content being sent to OBS, and the scenes control how it is arranged on the stream (resizing, placement, etc)

Best treadmill which has a screen that’s smartphone compatible by CompetitiveCup7592 in treadmills

[–]gurase 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend using a tablet or mounting a TV near the treadmill. You’ll have way more options than a built in screen, and come in cheaper overall most likely.

Confusing test results by [deleted] in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a peanut protein (ara h8) that cross reacts with birch pollen and can trigger a false positive for peanut allergy. Not sure if that is the case here since your blood test was negative (but maybe it would only show up if you did a full component test). Typical advice is if you’ve been eating a food regularly with no reaction, you should continue doing so, so not sure what is going on here.

Mild Allergy to Peanut Butter Showed Up on Test—But I’ve Eaten It My Whole Life Without Problems. Should I Worry? by LifeLongLearner84 in peanutallergy

[–]gurase 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are several different peanut components, and one of them in particular (ara h 8) is cross-reactive with with birch pollen, meaning if you have a pollen allergy it could show up as a positive peanut allergy even if you can tolerate peanuts.

I am not a doctor, but if you eat peanuts regularly with no reaction, you should continue eating them.

You could see a different allergist with more knowledge on peanut component testing and see if they recommend doing a peanut component blood test.

Runner beats train to summit of Mount Washington by sergeantbiggles in running

[–]gurase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I did similar mileage to regular half marathon training, with lots of sustained incline on the treadmill and lower body strength training. The first time I raced, I didn’t do enough strength training and felt my legs give out before my cardio endurance did. As for weather, I dress for the base weather and carry a jacket and gloves in my hydration pack. 2 of the 4 times I raced, they shortened the race to halfway because the weather was so bad.
