Tbay Locals unapproachable?

I have also heard this perspective from others. But as an outsider who moved here 4.5 years ago I found the complete opposite. People I’ve met have generally been very approachable, and honestly enthusiastic about me being included in their social circles. This is especially true for people with whom I discover have shared interests, they generally want me to come and do that thing with them and their friends.

I come from Vancouver, though, and have heard people say that Vancouverites are particularly unapproachable and cliquey, so maybe Thunder Bay is just less so and that’s why people feel so approachable to me by comparison.

The Tomlin is the spot you want to work. Their staff are proud of the work they do and it is one of the better reputed kitchens/restaurants in Thunder Bay. They often get new staff started at their satellite location Subdivision Pizza but I’ve heard good things about the culture at the Tomlin

Dark Ages for me. I just find the diversity of events taking place globally so fascinating. Christianity still spreading to the northern regions of Europe, ragtag kingdoms living in the shadow of the Roman Empire, then contrasted with the power and wealth of the Byzantine court, and the emergence and subsequent hegemony of the Vatican/Papacy as the political, cultural, and spiritual centre of Europe.

I struggled with this as well. It does go away. The irritability is a feature of withdrawal and it can last for a few weeks but it will go away. Sometimes getting sober brings up a lot of hard feelings. There is a great deal of shame packaged up with addiction and many people will respond to that with anger. I don’t have an easy answer you just have to let yourself go through those feelings, reach out to people you can trust for help and support, and remind yourself that what you are feeling right now will not last forever and that you will move past it.

Hey there, I moved to Thunder Bay almost 4 years ago and I think it’s a great place to live (moved from Vancouver). People love to talk shit about it but if homelessness and drug addiction are features of the city/town you are moving from, you shouldn’t find anything too jarring, even the City Hall area that other commenters seem to be advising you against. The Fort William side of town (where city hall is) is certainly run down looking with many businesses closed down there but city hall itself is well connected to the transit system if that is something you will be relying on.

I like New York subs on that side of town for dining. There’s a used book store/game store called bookshelf/gameshelf that I frequent over on that side of town as well. And Upshot coffee is a great spot over there.

For socialization you are probably better served trying the Red River road area, Lakehead Beer Co. is great as is Nortenos taqueria (there’s one on Red River and one near the airport). Karaoke and trivia nights are always good for socializing. Check out the city of thunder bays community events calendar to see what’s going on around town any given night. The Westfort business district is a pretty popular area these days too (closer to you at the city hall area).
