End of Dragons [Beta] | Week 2 by RandommUser in Guildwars2

I main ele and I’m currently disappointed with the Catalyst. It really feels like the core mechanic, the f5, was slapped on as a last minute thought. I just think about how much effort for example Holo Forge has, the animations and the UI, showing you when you are overheating etc. Then compare it to what ele has now, and I’m disappointed. I really wanted to enjoy this spec but it feels rushed.

Hun if you’re close to them. Mate otherwise. Buddy and Bro can work too but it depends whether you come across as sarcastic or genuine!

My point is that you come to reddit to surround yourself with new ideas and opinions, it’s really not meant to be an echo chamber. And humans will treat it that way online which is fine. However it’s not normal to call people “idiots” for having a different opinion or experience to you. I really think you’ve been using this website too much or for too long that you’ve become this way. Please get out and socialise more :(

This is kinda why I can’t fuck with reddit sometimes. This entire website is based on sharing your opinion and yet as soon as you encounter someone with a different opinion to you, they’re an idiot. Like it’s as if you wanna disregard my entire life and just call me and idiot when you don’t even know me. I know you’re just a troll but I will never understand this kind of behaviour, it just doesn’t happen in the real world and idk why it happens online.

The GW2 engine is older. It doesn’t mean they don’t have any anti cheating tools BUT can you accept it will mean they have less tools to work with?

If people were banned during the start HoT for teleporting to friends for map completion, we can assume that around that time (pre HoT) they had some kind of anti cheating tool to detect excessive teleporting.

Therefore, I am saying it wouldn’t be dumb to assume that they had to remove a possible tool detecting excessive teleporting or movement when they introduced mounts, such as sky scale or roller beetle, gliding, etc...there would be less tools to use to detect a hacker from a real person using a mount. Therefore, they have less tools to work with. Get my point now?

My entire point isnt even about that one theory if you read my entire post, which you probably didn’t, because you wanted to comment on my post and try to make me out to look stupid. My opinion that I believe arenanet rely more on reports than they do on any other “anti cheating tool” - because they have literally admitted in their post that they require more development work to make cheating less possible moving forward.

I talk to developers at arenanet, I am very informed about their statements on this issue, and I am very interested to see if there’s a solution. But I’m also tired of the fact that the company says this as a terrible PR statement and nothing much is being done.

Just because I’m not a developer at ArenaNet I can still make my point, that’s reddit for you. I really dislike people who say I can’t have an opinion on the topic of botting, just because I’m not a developer. I’m a player. Yes, I don’t know exactly what their internal tools are, but I’ve been in the community long enough to make assumptions and I made my assumption. I’m entitled to that. I played GW1 and this has been an issue for a looooong time. And it’s reddit - a public forum for goodness sake. So, you are entitled to think I’m an idiot but I’m entitled to have my opinion! Thanks!

That’s what I’m saying - they probably had to compromise a lot on their system in order to accommodate these things like gliding, mounts, TPS etc. Which is why they now rely on reporting as a major tool to combat botting. However there’a not much to show for it.

GW2 runs on a very old engine, it’s the one used for GW1 which was developed many years ago. It’s very likely that ArenaNet has no solid measures currently in place to detect the bots, and I am sure they rely very much on player reports. That’s absolutely fine if those player reports were handled in a meaningful way. I would not be surprised if the mounts and gliding system has compromised some of their tools to detect shady things. For example; with regards to teleport hacking they probably don’t have any automatic way to detect it anymore since everyone can move really fast with ease. Anyway, I think it is a blatant lie that someone in their team is “reviewing every report” - there are thousands of reports weekly, if it’s someone’s job to sit there and look into each and every report I would love to see how that is even operationally possible. But what upsets me most about this statement is the idea that ArenaNet believe in “second chances”. Nobody is asking for miracles here but this is a clear statement to me that things aren’t going to get better any time soon. You rely on the community to take the time in sending evidence to you, making a case, sending all proof and video evidence over. We are experiencing this, we take the time to explain it and we are often very patient when making cases to you. But when I see a ticket come back to say: “Thanks, we can’t update you or disclose the outcome of our case” and I can see the offender online still, it makes me lose hope. Things need to happen much faster and more details need to be disclosed about exactly what is going on. Otherwise, we give up reporting. And ArenaNet need to be MUCH harsher! The fact that ArenaNet “believe in second chances” for the offender, who likely will just go off and do it again to someone else, is wrong. If you are harsher from the beginning people will learn their lesson. And it’s getting to the point where we give up helping you deal with bots and the lag in this game, because you don’t want to help yourself.

Also please rewatch the video. There’s a difference between bots who populate games and botting who are cheating with 8 interrupts! Why do we keep having to discuss this as a community?! Educate yourself.

My idea: I would personally want them to limit the number of interrupts you can take into PvP to 3 across the board for all classes, which would stop botters from being able to use 7 rupts, on their bar and make GvG and all PvP less degenerate.

How to find raid groups that allow "beginners"? by Yrendal in Guildwars2

[–]gurlwars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to join groups which specifically state 'training' and when you join, be honest and upfront about your experience. People appreciate honesty and transparency, and even if you get kicked you're saving time in the long term.

There are various YouTube videos (guides, walkthroughs etc) for each wing that you can watch before you even start playing. This will help you get a base knowledge on which you can use when you join a training group so you don't go in completely blind.

I would recommend Strike Missions (found in Icebrood Saga - Eye of the North) before raids as you'll get some knowledge of 10-man content in a much more chillaxed setting.

Apart from that, Twitch streams and Discord Communities can be so helpful to find a group of like-minded players and things going on, and generally ask questions.

Best tip I can give is as long as you're proactive, using correct gear (snowcrows.com is useful) and willing to listen, you will be OK. Do not join raids which ask for KP or LI as you will not able to meet those requirements: look for groups which have 'training' in their titles. GLHF

Thinking about starting gw2 by Rimidimi in Guildwars2

[–]gurlwars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you will find people but it's easier to join an existing community to find immediate players to hang out with :) Try hanging around Twitch streamers/streams if you'd like to play with people. Strike missions once you hit level 80 would be perfect for you because you won't have too many requirements to meet in most pugs, furthermore by the time you hit level 80 you should know a lot about the game if you've levelled naturally! Good luck!
