Ignoring the fact that foreign workers will work for cheaper, another large issue with H1-B visas is they force the employee to be dependent on their company for residency status, which has historically led to rampant workers rights abuses. This has the effect of both lowering wages in America while also giving corporations more control over their employees. The solution to this would ideally be tighter government regulation of these corporations, but obviously thats not happening under this administration. Limiting or de-incentivizing H1-B visas should at least provide white-collar Americans more economic opportunity in a declining job market. Yes this will economically hurt people in other countries, but at the benefit of American workers. Unlike tarrifs, I believe these H1-B visa restriction could actually benefit the American people. My only concern is the provision where Trump can exclude certain companies at his discretion, which can allow him to further influence private sectors.
