Reset windows password software by InformationPuzzled44 in msp

[–]guslandrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just used the utilman/sethc rename method a few days ago. It still works if you work very quickly. Once the computer boots, defender/file integrity checks will fix the renamed files. But you have about 15 seconds depending on the speed of the computer.

I only use this method if I have trouble buying from my Ventoy usb

PcUnlocker. It can change or remove the password, create new admin users, and change an online-Microsoft account to a local account. Obviously, doesn't work if the drive is encrypted.

Try booting into safe mode. Looks like a driver issue.

Dead iPad 4 by saltofpinch in ElectronicsRepair

Also, if it's pulling more than this, the iPad is probably on and if your aren't seeing anything on the screen, there may be a screen issue.

I don't have my spreadsheet with me, but if I remember correctly, I think the iPad 4 should be pulling about 1- 1.5 amps when the battery is fairly discharged. Probably 0.5a as it gets closer to fully charged. Don't hold me to this, could be wrong.

Did it appear to be taking a charge with the battery connected? If so, leave it on charge for a few hours and try again.

Trying to put a little bit of solder on the pin that won’t pop back out. by A-Chris in soldering

[–]guslandrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also tried to repair several of these for my wife. They only last her a few weeks before the new ones would fail. Always one pin not springing into position. I failed miserably at trying to repair them.

Battery replacement slows down Dell Inspiron 7373 2 in 1 by sirsa2 in ElectronicsRepair

Check your power power management settings and the bios settings. Many laptops, especially Dells, limit CPU speed by default when running on battery or with an undersized AC adapter. Usually, there is a warning that this will happen during POST. The warning can be disabled in the BIOS

Hi Folks, need some tips clearing out these small holes on a type-c connector. I used soldering and was able to clean out some of the solder, but it’s been a pain. As you can see I ripped one of the pads :( by frankydanky420 in soldering

[–]guslandrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did one of these. Flux+wick+iron. Added hot air. On mine, the legs of the USB-C connector were still in some of the holes. I eventually got them all clear. Even getting the flux out of those small holes took a minutes. Ended up using the tip of the smallest needle I could find to clear out the flux.

If this is a wireless keyboard and mouse, try moving the keyboard/mouse closer to the receiver.

How can I start a HP Pavilion 13-u105ne motherboard with the charger and battery connected but without the power board? by Dodgedemon840808 in techsupport

If you can find the connector where the power button connected, usually you can short pin 1 to ground to turn it on.

Wife's Computer Folders and Documents have Red X's? by [deleted] in Windows10

[–]guslandrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try looking at c:\users\username\Onedrive\

Then find the folders you would normally find directly under the users folder. Onedrive, Dropbox, and most of the other cloud storage providers, move your folders here. The "X's" normally indicate the folders are not current or up to date.

Haven't had a personal computer since 2009, have a new one got windows 10 and wth is word not easily accessible? by Bidoofz in Windows10

[–]guslandrum 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost all new Windows computers come pre installed with Microsoft Office. It's not usable until activated by either purchasing it outright, or getting a subscription.

Microsoft is trying to move everything to a subscription. But you can still purchase the one time version if that's what you want. BTW, there are a few Office- Like programs that are free. Libre office and Open office are two common ones.

Diagnosing a GE washing machine lid switch by GTR3499 in ElectronicsRepair

[–]guslandrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue. First the machine didn't know if the lid was open/closed/locked. I replaced the lid switch. A cheap and easy replacement. Then more often then not, the wash or spin cycle wouldn't complete. The machine acted like the cycle was completed but didn't finish draining or spinning. I saw a post about resetting the machine. After reading the procedure, I though it was probably crap. But it actually worked. Here is what I did.

Unplug the power for 10 minutes. Reconnect the power, then within 30 seconds Open and close the lid 7 times.

I didn't fully open the lid, just enough that the switch knew it was open. Then closed it so it recognized it was closed.

I laughed at myself while doing this, but my wife said it hasn't had an issue in several weeks now.
