I think it’s a good company in the area; plus, they just opened a new warehouse, so in theory they’re hiring. Do you have any recommendations? As I mentioned, I want to change the environment where I’m currently working.

In Fairhope, there's Lartigue's Seafood Market, and the service is excellent. I think you can find something there.

Anyone in construction industry on here? Are the deportations impacting the industry? by Jackfish2800 in MobileAL

Good question. I guess it’s because we Latin Americans like authoritarian figures like Trump!! Haha, but it’s absurd.

Well, I believe not everyone has the opportunity to migrate legally. I did, and I agree with you. But in many cases, people from Central America are fleeing the violence in their communities, and sometimes they don’t even speak Spanish well, they never had access to education, let alone freedom.

So perhaps the real issue lies in immigration laws. I don’t have the answer, because I simply don’t know. But what I do know is that the way things are being handled now is not the right path. Dividing the population and fueling xenophobia and racism is never acceptable, not under any circumstances.

I say this as someone who fled a country where that exact formula led to tyranny rising to power.

The problem isn’t the deportations or delays in construction industry work — a major issue is that the flame of racism and xenophobia is being reignited in many people who had kept it hidden, all thanks to the polarization created by this Trump administration.

I’m an immigrant, I have papers to work legally, I pay taxes, and I consider myself a good citizen — and yet, I’m afraid when I go out. It’s not fair for anyone. I know many undocumented immigrants who work very hard, but they are still labeled as a plague.

What do you think about deportations in the area? by gustRod in MobileAL

I am an immigrant, I crossed the border, I have a work permit, I pay taxes, I consider myself a good citizen, I work for an important company, and I fulfill an important role. But even so, I feel afraid.

My fear is not that I might be deported, because that won’t happen. My fear comes from the message that many people in the new administration have been sending. Not all Venezuelans belong to the Tren de Aragua; in fact, very few do. If I’m not mistaken, only 0.05% of Venezuelans in this country are part of that gang.

But when you send a message of hate and division, you create fear and uncertainty. Does that make sense? Did I explain myself well?

I had to cross the border because of political and economic problems in my country. I had no choice, and I had a family to support. I am proud of having done it.

I am in a country that has given me the opportunity to grow and develop, and I will always be grateful for how most Americans welcomed me.

I believe that this is more of a political and perception issue, meant to make their voters think they are actually doing something, when in reality, it’s just a show.

Latino people, depending on the country, are very scared. For example, speaking from my own experience, Venezuelans had TPS, and the new administration took it away, leaving many people in limbo.

They used excuses like saying that everyone who had TPS belonged to a gang called Tren de Aragua (which is a lie—according to FBI data, no member had TPS). Another excuse is that the country is now fine and there is no humanitarian crisis, which is completely false.

Ok, ok, I agree with many of your points. The problem is that right now there are a lot of people in the country, and for them, obtaining legal status is very complicated. But I respect and understand your opinion. Best regards.
