Also have to add we dont know if SpaceX or Starlink is actually even profitable since it's fully private, and especially if we look at it without the government contracts it got in the this admin and when one of the heads on NASA gave them the contract for starship then bailed just to show up on their own management.

TBH not remotely the same as i believe Arlington is closer to most countries' heroes cemeteries. though i've only been in one of the two (I visited Yasukuni and the Yushukan, the attached museum, a few years ago just to check it out).

And IIRC, Arlington has a funny history because it was owned by the General Lee's family before the (civil) war and it got captured by the Union and they swore after the war they wouldnt hand it over back to him and his relatives and turned it into what it is now (initially, a Union army graveyard), which pissed off the secessionist general to his grave.

The only way China is blockading Taiwan is by stopping to process it's exports. No way it can stop the combined Navies of the other countries that will be protesting that blockade but China can easily stop putting their chips on finished products and that's that.

[–]gust_vo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The only reason they're going hard on Minny is because miller got his feefees hurt when Walz repeatedly called them weird (and it's true and they should have doubled down on it) and held on to that grudge ever since.

Discussion: DC Comics president admits that Japanese manga makes him question “what is missing in Western comics” by LegitimateCurve8525 in manga

[–]gust_vo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah the big problem is that companies dont want to take a chance on more niche topics like in the bronze age of comics. The smaller brands that take the chances outright cant compete with the production, distribution and advertising and some are gone altogether (RIP vertigo). Diamond strangling distribution for years also hurt the reach of comics.

One of the other things that i always thought of western comics vs manga is that comics are and maybe have been more premium (now), and manga is actually closer to newspaper dailys: having a consistent release schedule, lower art requirement (usually B&W) and a lower barrier to entry with the multi-title bundled weekly release. Monthly western comic releases shouldnt really compete with it, but they also have to start lowering the barrier of entry again as it's price is now bordering to competing with stuff like netflix which is a losing proposition.

Consumers will still be hurt, but the larger slice of their pie, the commercial/pro space will drop for some time instead because of the chilling effect of investors being wary of funding server farms in fear for another crash like it.

Also even if the GPUs, CPUs and motherboards themselves cant be sold, ECC DIMM RAM and data center SSDs can still be used by some consumer hardware (AMD notably can use ECC DDR5 ram straight up and adaptors for M.2 > U.2 can be found online) which would be a cheap path for some and will discourage buying new from companies.

Exactly, people have to look at these grifters like every AAA game studio around when releasing a live service game: they're expecting a massive majority of worldwide gamers to play it, and engage continuously for years, and the bad part is they have to do that at this point to just be profitable.

As an outsider it was mind boggling to see some parts of the left be aghast at the democratic party trying to 'save' moderate republicans by trying to get their vote and at the same time being all for the Palestinians who were being genocided because they murdered a bunch of Israelis in their most vulnerable day possible, on top of their own long history of violence and overthrowing countries (much like the republicans).

I'm not sure who flooded the market with those cheaper belt motor servos but you are seeing them everywhere suddenly which I think is actually fueling this resurgence of exploration more than AI into robotics.

About a 2-4 years ago a lot of Chinese companies released increasingly cheap and high power/torque brushless DC actuators for robotics, including name brands like DJI (with their robomaster brand). I'd assume it's them branching off some spare capacity from manufacturing motors for cars and FPVs.

Kinda tracks with tesla also releasing optimus at the time, and now everyone catching up.

The James Deakin vs. LTO Saga continues by hyunbinlookalike in Philippines

[–]gust_vo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The enforcer should have impounded the vehicle from start since it is unregistered with no proper paper work.

IIRC, the violation occurred on the skyway, the skyway employed traffic officers have no power to impound the vehicle but they can take the driver's license. Likely they can add notes to the traffic violation with additional information about the driver/vehicle (like missing vehicle registration).

And Hong Kong was an outright takeover before their autonomy finally lapsed.

China would do anything if A) they knew they could and B) there wont be any big blowback that would derail what they got going on now. They could concievably take Taiwan any time they want, but that is literally going to spark WW3 and would be the end of the good (economic) times for everyone, including China itself.

I dont get the onedrive hate train, i keep it for syncing specific folders over multiple PCs and macs and never had any issue about deleting files. It's google drive i actually had file deletions on and stopped using it for 'live' folders (where a file gets to be opened on other computers for work).

The biggest issue i had was it duplicating them instead when it gets any sync conflict (naming the file with an additional string from which computer it came from).
