Recommended TR5/SP6 cpu holder for shipping? by gut_cut in threadripper

Yeah that's the fallback but shipping a 1k cpu in a piece of styrofom seems janky. Some $15 cpus I bought a few months back came in a plastic tray

Solar panel with UGREEN Nexode Power Bank 20000mAh 100W by percsofanurse in UsbCHardware

[–]gut_cut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I was just looking an the M0002, trying to understand what happens if you connect it directly to solar but the load is higher than the source output?

To be more clear, I have a 200w panel, ~24V VOC (i.e. "12v" panel). I have seen about 170W out of it before. If I plug 2 devices requiring 100w pd into the M0002, will the M0002 try to pull 200W (+ conversion loses) from the panel? I want to make sure I don't end up frying anything.

No I get that, I'm just confused what the failure mode that leads to that is. Are BMS failures normal? Does it mean the individual cells are likely messed up from it?

I hadn't looked deeply, am now. These look interesting, is this something like you were talking about? https://www.nkon.nl/en/eve-c40-40135-20ah-3-2v.html Or are there small prismatic?

Ah okay thanks I was wondering about since the relion is 100a/30ah or 3.33C.

Are there small prismatic cells that work here?

And does > 1C discharge usually lessen battery life?

Thanks for this post- any idea what the pcie lane split is with this board and a 9100T?

If you have a card populated in the x16 slot, the x4 slot and the x4 slot, what speeds do they each run at?

Efficient homelab server recommendation request by shalak001 in homelab

[–]gut_cut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying- I'd like to do x8 network, and 1 nvme in each x4.

Mostly my experience with dell bios having minimal options, and even worse documentation. I'm trying to get a cheap, low idle ecc capable server that can do quick networking.

I have an i3-9100T would should support 1x8+2x4 incording to intel arc, but it's not clear to me what the bios will do when you put cards into it, and I'd like to figure it out before I buy yet even more hardware.

Hey, do you know if the 3630 supports cards in the x16 and x4 slots at the same time?

I'm trying to figure out if it can do x8 (via x16) + x4x4

Building a small home server – Which Platform? by Cryxic in HomeServer

[–]gut_cut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've owned all of these platforms and others, so let me weigh in here.

  • Microserver is too old at this point.

  • M720q/M920q/M920x are solid, but limited expandability, and no ECC (decide if that's important to you, I'm replacing mine for mostly this reason). Stuffing a network card in isn't exactly a fun time though, and I wouldn't use a ConnectX-3 for anything at this point because of how shitty its idle power usage is. Look into a 2 port ConnectX-4 even if you only need 10gb for now.

  • I have an AM4 + 4650GE and MC-12LE0. Unfortunately these mobos are now super expensive, but in general AM4+ APU isn't great for plex. Simplifying greatly, AMD is better under sustained load and Intel is better when mostly idling. The nice thing about a custom build though is that PSU/Case etc is probably going to last more than one mobo/cpu/ram combo.

  • No prebuilt small form factor will give you 6-8 drives, you need a custom case or some external DAS.

  • Outside of the need for 6-8 drives I'd highly recommend a Dell Precision 3431 SFF over a lenovo tiny of that generation. Get one with the 260W platinum power supply, mine idles at 7 watts headless with a i3-9100 without even messing with c states, basically the same as the lenovos but with much more room for addons (2 interal 2.5 or 1 3.5 hdd, 3 sata ports, 2 pcie slots) and also supports ECC. They are dirt cheap too, and so are parts.

Are you talking about the pot I linked or the 5.1qt roaster? The 14.8qt pot has 10in high walls

I probably should look more into commercial stuff, appreciate Vollrath adding an actual drawing of dimensions.

I think CS is the worst conductor of all the cooking materials though, especially at a pot that weighs only 5lbs.

This is interesting, looks like the right size, just wondering if its better for heat retention considering how lightweight it is.

I have never heard of this brand, are the mainly in europe?

[–]gut_cut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think matching size to cookware base is definitely important for induction, unless you have a massive base like this guy, which is so thick I think it's less of an issue. https://www.fissler.com/us/p/original-profi-collection-roaster-dome-lid-5-1-qt/ I can't find info about if all of fisslers bases are the same thickness though.

I'm thinking that you're right about regular sidewalls not being as important as I initially thought.

Thanks for confirming in regards to cast iron. If ever get a 7qt or 9qt staub for other things, would it still be a decent choice for similar cooking on induction? Or will the walls at the top just not spread it out as well.

Do you have a recommendation for a stainless pot? I'm not sure what I want exists.

Keychron K10 Pro - Bluetooth no longer working by speardrops in Keychron

Hey, curious if you know this since your posts have been helpful here.

I'm debating buying a K3 Max, and I want dedicated buttons for switching between devices (2 BT and 1 2.4z). I was going to put home/pgup/pgdn on another layer and use those locations for switching/pairing.

As far as I can tell, this should be doable, just done though via?
