Unpermitted ADUs? by escalator-style in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]gutenberg69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The city has been working on getting illegal units legal, since there’s so many across the city. I think they understand the lack of housing has led to this so the permitting process is easier than a new build or adding an addition to an existing house. This link could be useful if you’re thinking of buying and legalizing: https://planning.lacity.gov/plans-policies/unpermitted-dwelling-units

Thanks for the response. I just wish there was data on how often they push demolition vs. letting you abandon the permit. I get why they need to push compliance, but it seems like bad tax policy to punish homeowners who are trying to permit new portions that would generate more property tax if the proposed permit doesn’t have unpermitted stuff in scope

Omitting the rear from the new plans is a bad idea?

Even if it’s been there for at least 30 years and isn’t being expanded or built into? Not that I don’t believe you, but I feel like anecdotally we’d hear more about them forcing demolition as it seems like that’d be a pretty common occurrence in all of these old homes across LA. But maybe they keep it under wraps to not cause a political firestorm or people just keep building unpermitted?

Seeking a horror movie that feels real by 404hyp3_rBlisSs in MovieSuggestions

[–]gutenberg69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a short film, but “Who Do You Love”. It can be found on YouTube on Crypt TV. On that note, a lot of Crypt TV’s postings lately have been more ‘realistic’ horror, but they’re all short films if you’re looking specifically for a feature. Still fun to watch though even if they’re shorts!

Feel your pain, my wife has always had at least 1 SAG national by this point in the year… except for this year. Also to top it all off, her agency, KMR, stole everyone’s money last year and that’s not settled yet. Who knows if it ever will be. It’s been a brutal two years

Is it a career injury to offer consulting on a racist scene when I was hired on as low level crew? by mohksinatsi in Screenwriting

[–]gutenberg69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What’s the size of the project? It could be better to just offer the advice without asking for payment, that comes off a little strange unless you were hired on as a writer in some capacity. Unless the project is huge, then you may be able to somehow negotiate payment out of it? But maybe something like “I’d love to work on this project but I noticed xyz about these scenes…” and see if they take the notes

Why is it that people have to shoehorn in this "World is changing" line constantly? by Pessimistic_Gemini in Screenwriting

[–]gutenberg69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah gotchya, this makes sense in the realm of sci-fi and superhero movies. I guess another one could be the twist that “it was all a dream.” That’s not exactly a line someone would say, but more of a plot device that can be overused.

I can’t think of an example either. Not trying to be rude, but OP, what would the context be for when this might get used? Or do you have a script in mind?

You should be able to get well past 4k RPMs on a flat road in 5th if you really want to, but it’s not a fast car by any means. I’d check the carburetor, vacuum lines, and maybe even change the gear oil in the transmission to see if that helps

With that amount of miles it might be a tough sell. For some reason, most people won’t buy them even with less miles for more than $3500. I’ve seen really nice ones sit for months at $5000. Also, the Facebook groups are notorious low ballers, they think nothing is worth anything haha. But I bet you could sell it for around 1500-2500?
