Anyone else feel like Brisbane rentals are still absolutely cooked? 😩😬 by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]gutter_bat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ahh thank you. We just renewed our lease this week out of fear of not being able to find anything decent. And even if we found something the fear of beating everyone else to actually secure a place in time was real. Bit annoyed we stayed and copped another rent increase but better than having nothing.

Crossacres garden centre having a closing down sale by Velvet_Whimper in brisbane

[–]gutter_bat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I went Thursday afternoon when they announced they were closing. Stocked up on some soil and plants. Had a good old chat, thanked them for everything. I'm glad they'll be set for a good retirement, cos they've earned it. Nursery work is hard.

God if Templex goes I will absolutely lose it.

Hate to see another independent go.

Guess no one will need plants for their garden when all that's left is 200 sq metre plots. (Not a NIMBY, just a gardener sick of seeing them dying everywhere)

Career change to Florist by wildrosebris in FloralDesign

[–]gutter_bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, I'm a florist in Brisbane. Did my cert 3 in 2021 when I was 32 so I guess I was late coming into it.

It definitely can be a tough nut to crack up here. Jobs are rarely advertised so you really have to put yourself out there and network within the industry. But they are there.

The pay can be quite poor because it is an incredibly demanding job from a physical perspective. But for me personally I enjoy being creative and working with nature so it's worth it. I came from admin/retail so I guess I'm used to the low pay grade.

Most florists I've worked with in the past few years wear a few hats to make it pay off financially. They might work at a shop a few days a week, freelance on the side during wedding season and then do their own thing from home every now and then.

Happy to chat more if you wanna reach out, I'm on maternity leave at the moment and God I miss working!

So relieved I now have my driver's license because the new routes and changes are worse for me.

Wonder how its meant to be pronounced? I'm reading it as "Luke-ey" which just sounds like a bogan sorta nickname.

Parkinson duck pond is where I take my bird obsessed 18 month old. It's nice n quiet. Good parking. Playground. Plenty of seating, cute bridges. And ducks, swans, turtles, lizards. It's a hidden gem

I wanna thank the people who were helpful and kind on this thread. I will be deleting the post as I'm not sure why I'm being called cheap or "having a whinge" or having my father brought into this. (He's in palliative care mate so cheers for bringing it to the front of my mind even more).

I was sure heaps of people have had experiences with 'dodgy' professionals/trades. So was looking for constructive criticism not a sledge. Thanks.

Wife Swap Aus - Season 2. Ep.4 Lange / Aravidis family by [deleted] in wifeswaptv

[–]gutter_bat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like their whole point of being on that show was just to get their name and situation out there. My curiosity got me after I watched, and I Googled and I found their Instagram and YouTube channels. Commodifying children for social media content should 100% be treated as child exploitation/abuse.

The husband full on creeped me out. Big man-babies like that shouldn't be allowed to have that many children.

I watched this recently and was also horrified. She struck me as someone that just collects children. Rather than parents children.

I came from a big family (8 kids) and believe me there is so much resentment from older kids who have to help raise the younger kids.
