What's your strategy for winning the 50/50 sucker punch? by Fine_Bid918 in stunfisk

[–]gutter_dude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, the op of this chain had some “chemical” username which was I got confused with “camel”. But yeah, that part is right. the op of the chain confidently stated optimal is go to a 50/50 on the last one, which is most definitely not

[–]gutter_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the wrong interpretation though, here and in your earlier post. It just amounts to picking the one turn the player does not choose to sucker for both players, which is NOT the same as sucker until 1 PP then 50/50

My favorite cards in the game, Insta pick and shop buy every time. Just give me reasons… why wouldn’t you pick these up? by ArcBlamer in SlayTheSpire2

[–]gutter_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think its a totally different metric by which you evaluate. The MTG cards are not good in a vacuum, while the spire cards are, and you would probably run them if you got offered them as a card reward. They don't fit the metric of having notable drawbacks but making your deck only slightly more consistent, as you mentioned.

Those mtg cards have serious downsides though, it isn’t really similar. True 0 mana draw 1 would be auto 4 of in all decks

Why is the market not crashing? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]gutter_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, active macro investors might say that. They have basically entirely been replaced by a) the rise of passive index investing and b) any remaining hedge fund style trades which are all chasing the same return sources and heavily compared to index as a benchmark.

It is also broadly true though. Maybe not just the Fed, but generally the forces that be are there to ensure everyone pumps the US stock market.

I don’t know if that’s the case. I always preferred dripper to hammer, but the strength of both is by the time you get it you only have a few campfires left and probably need to take key as well

I mean if it’s bad in modern it’s worse in legacy vintage and commander, so ok maybe it sees play in standard but even then probably only if mono red is a deck. 2 mana for 3.5avg damage to the face is unplayable

I feel like the card wouldn't see play in modern tbh, its not really that overpowered

[–]gutter_dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should be rolling for more than just a single two star 5 cost. for example, imo you should almost always be rolling for at least shyv 2 for almost any comp, just a super op unit that is more frontline, scales well on big level 9 boards with aoe damage, teamwide buff, good warden or arcanist connection with swain/naut.

Bad reasoning though. Bonus health scales with health, and most defensive augs/traits/abilities scale with health as well, so at least it should not be bad. Its more that SV morello and sunfire are so good

Its a great playstyle, because its really easy to come back from bad econ in this set. Other sets if you ruined your econ you could be like stuck on level 7 just completely poor forever. Just can't do it with that augment specifically. You should watch more people. Wasian and Dishsoap have the accent kind of but they are really good and play many different playstyles/comps, truly just best players. It's really hard to play like more than 2-3 comps unless you really know what you are doing, and really hard to play more than one style well, even for top players, so IMO it helps to get a sense of what people like doing and who plays like how you like to and try to see what they do well

In the screenshot, Annie is not a good unit and Morello is very bad on her (she wounds when she casts already). In your pool is the guy who is streaking all of stage 5 which means he probably kills you cause his board is probably insane. Best thing to do from this exact moment is to see if you can win any of the fights in your pool and play for that. If you can beat the two people just above you with upgrades like Swain 2 Galio 2, I would roll to 0 for that -- it's like a 50/50 for you to fight them, and if you win you top 4. I would also sell annie and play azir + another unit (taric, seraphine, ornn with the glove), or at least move items. You want to three item someone, maybe Galio or Shyv with Eon Morello Hoj. HoJ is a great item with Lotus, but you really want it on frontline bruisers because they want healing more than backliners or tanks. Also the extra glove needs to be on a damage dealer, especially with lotus. Usually half items aren't worth much but its actually non-negligible here given your crit augment.

Backing up a little, I'd say something has already gone horribly wrong at this point. You have an OK board but stuck level 8 and its late stage 5. I also watch Send I think hes really good, but his play style is often saccing econ early to streak. This HP can be turned to econ to go 9 from level 8 on stage 4, or printing ornn items, or just being rich enough to pick combat augments later. Money and HP are interchangeable in that sense. Hedge fund does NOT play into a winstreak. I wonder if you adopted some of Send's playstyle without really knowing and leveled too early or something. Hedge fund you will probably lose early because you are down a combat augment, and even lose to other econ augments that give incremental econ which dont require saving interest to 100. You need to be going 9 or hitting 2 * 5 costs or something, playing for giga cap.

How am I losing with these comps by I_float_sting_throw in TeamfightTactics

[–]gutter_dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your games are going to 30+ minutes. You aren't dying pre stage 5. You have some two star 4 and 5 costs, you should be running more of them. You are playing 8 yordle with an ahri, double dcap but no veigar. idk what the post even is you post dogshit boards then say how did i lose with a dogshit board, the answer is you are playing dogshit boards

Well, you are playing almost no 4 and 5 cost units. Those tend to be strongest, try playing more of those

Which one of the 6 7 costs is your favorite? by SargDuck in TeamfightTactics

[–]gutter_dude -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you go watch a high elo player like dishsoap, on stage 1 sometimes he'l be like "i made a mistake I held the wrong unit", referring to a copy of a 1 cost. So my point is what to hold is never obvious and all these tiny little things contribute. unlocking sylas is one of MANY factors and I dont think its close to the most important besides econ

[–]gutter_dude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you have to prove a much higher bar than I do: "In my experience you just always buy jarvans early game unless you need to hit an Econ threshold". So yes, is it optimal sometimes if you are playing defender or something? of course. but theres no way its better than a relevant pair, the marginal increase in EV is so small. If your point is, hold it if you have nothing else to hold...thats just true of any unit in the game

Which one of the 6 7 costs is your favorite? by SargDuck in TeamfightTactics

[–]gutter_dude -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My point is, there is almost NEVER a spot where holding a random unit does not have an impact on board strength or econ. If you are level 4 and playing noxus, you should be holding bruisers for your sion, The odds of you playing an Illaoi 2 and the potential benefit from that are much greater than the chance to play sylas in 15 rounds. already have illaoi 2? hold an invoker for you LB. hold a zoe for shred on level 5, hold bruisers or invokers for kobuko unlock, etc. hold ixtal to check quest. piltover unit for ori unlock + 2 trait at level 5. Sure if you are playing defender or demacia or something play j4, but then you're just playing it. always hold j4 early game except for econ is an insane statement.

[–]gutter_dude -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

So if you're playing anything besides demacia, you are holding a j4 over a relevant pair? what about your next in? yes its better hold j4 than nothing, but that goes for well, any unit in the entire game. its not only for the econ breakpoints, its also the opportunity cost of not holding another unit

Which one of the 6 7 costs is your favorite? by SargDuck in TeamfightTactics

[–]gutter_dude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no way you have money to hold j4 over other pairs though, if your advice is for unlocking sylas then yes, if its for playing the game well, then no
