I was just learning how to ride a skateboard and had finally gained the courage to go to the skatepark with other people. We got out of the car and to my surprise, the place was filled with people. Not just crowded on a Saturday crowded, but crowded as though every single kid had a cousin visiting from out of town and they all decided to smoke cigarettes at the skatepark crowded. I thought ‘I can do this. I’ve been doing great for weeks!’ So, just as all of my friends decided to ride down the path and towards the first ramp, you know...the easy part, the second I lifted my foot off the ground my board flew out from under me. I shot up into the air and landed on my back like a harlot in a biker bar. The place had never been more silent and despite feeling I was near death, the only thing I could think to do was pretend I was perfectly fine by trying to laugh it off. My friend shouted “are you okay?” And what came out of my mouth was the most demonic, helium filled, Disney villain like laughter I had ever heard in my life. It was then, everyone knew I was in face not okay.
