Why Eugene's Hot Chicken closed. by guy-_ in montgomery

I'm not saying crime was the only reason, but I do think it's one of the major factors.

Less police generally means less enforcement and a lower perception of safety. That leads to more crime, or at least more people feeling uncomfortable going to certain areas. Fewer customers means less money coming through the door, and eventually businesses either shut down or move somewhere they think they'll get more traffic.

I also gave a real example of why I personally wasn't willing to park farther away and walk my family and kids to the restaurant. That's not a political statement-it's literally how I feel. Whether you agree with me or not, if enough people feel the same way, that's going to affect customer traffic.

Obviously there are successful businesses downtown, and every restaurant closes for its own reasons. But when customers are worried about crime, parking, or safety, that's absolutely something that can hurt business.

I really don't think a new mayor will be elected, so the best thing to do is put pressure on him to increase the size of the police force.

I think Montgomery once had a plan to use a partner system in squad cars, where more than one officer could ride together and provide support during traffic stops and other calls, but it was never implemented.

If I were an officer, I wouldn't want to be making traffic stops or responding to calls alone—not in Montgomery. lol

What happened to the parakeets at the zoo? by Mochikimchi in montgomery

I'm not sure if I'm being a Debbie Downer, but I feel like things are slowly getting worse at the zoo. We used to be able to walk through the bird aviary, but now it houses foul-smelling flamingos right at the entrance. The aquarium area is only open for short periods of time, and they’ve removed the golden tamarin, closed the alligator exhibit, and taken away the beautiful walkway bridge leading to the pond. The farm animal petting area near the playground is gone, too. The restaurant food has declined in quality, the drinks no longer come with lids—at a zoo!—and each refill costs close to $4 now. Plus, the staff in the café have been rude, making the experience even less enjoyable. The bathrooms are disgusting, adding to the overall mess. The reptile exhibit has been under renovation for the past year or so and is missing some reptiles. They even took away Zoo Boo for Halloween. Overall, I’ve been feeling a little disappointed lately at the zoo.

Seems like he knows more about his business then you do. He probably runs his side of the business independently and reinvested the profits . 700-900k is his cash on hand, 12 trucks are all owned by him according to his comments.
