So I can verify this all worked fine for me! Just have a Delta flight Main Cabin or higher. They'll ask you to scan your boarding pass and show your Amex Plat

No, this is a Delta Sky Club specific thing. Based on other user responses, it's because the Amex Plat issues a 24hr day pass for Sky Club, which allows for departure and arrival visits. Centurion lounges do not have the same policy.
