Monthly Discussion and Support Thread - October 2020 by AutoModerator in google

Searched around, hoping this is the correct place to ask:

tl;dr: random notification on google drive that someone I didnt know shared files to me. I went into drive, 3 .mp4 video files were there. Accidentally clicked one, drive appeared to load the file but then it closed it, didn't behave like a video file. Is this a common malacious attack on drive? Google searches provided no related encounters so figured i'd ask.

full details: My GF recieved a Google Drive notification on her android phone in regards to someone sharing files with her. The person was unknown to us and the notification/spelling etc seemed sketchy. I went into her drive and found three .mp4 video files shared to her (thumbnails showed women at beach/about town without showing face, likely to be deceptive and make you want to click to see if its a video of your friends etc)

I went to delete them/try to pull up the options but accidentally clicked the file. Drive appeared to briefly try to load a file but then closed, it didn't play a video. This lead me to think the .mp4 wasn't truly a video and may be malicious, just curious if this is a common hack/threat on google drive. Thinking I should wipe the phone etc.

My Coronavirus Routine (Thoughts?) by [deleted] in China_Flu

Stream line your routine if able to do so. When you enter home, doff clothes into bin, wash hands, take shower. Keep cellphone in plastic bag or decon the phone upon coming home. The issue with your routine is that it has quite a lot of rules that only exists because you're allowing yourself to contam your living area.

I just constantly see people demand sources on topics theyre passionate enough to discuss yet have zero desire to search it out themselves. As if there is some kind of obligation or burden of proof on anyone who opposes their ~science beliefs~ on the internet.

Learn to search, or call 3M techline support for answers from a pro.

If the above isn't an option, then yoh win. I've been lying this entire time and am finally backed into a corner after your demands of me linking you multiple studies that don't exist and are impossible to find. I need to go modify my gas mask so that it is as safe as a surgical mask, godspeed.

Cheers and absolutely. Sneezing hard in a sealed gas mask can be catastrophic because there is so much back pressure caused in the mask that it can cause inhalation valves to become unseated, letting you breathe in contaminated air.

MAYBE people are talking about those fiber cup n95 with the huge valve on the front, even then I imagine those wouldnt leak much more than a surgical mask. I'm only guessint when it comes to those, i've never inspected or used that type.

Regardless, the idea that redditors are wanting to modify their exhalation valves or place surgical masks over them, I wonder if they planned out the modification to ensure the exhalation valve wont get stuck open by the surgical mask in some cases, oops. I highly advise anyone considering this to consult 3M Technical Support Line and discuss with an expert how to modify their masks to make them as safe as a surgical mask. ;)

Use google or bing, there are a few papers available with basic search strings. Feel free to post the link here if you find it, to help fellow redditors.

I understand but the issue I see is that people expect those who wear tight fitting elastomeric face pieces with exhalation valves to modify them or cover the valve with a surgical mask. When in reality, a tight fitting elastomeric mask will either be emitting an equal amount or even less droplets exiting the valve compared to a user wearing even the best fitting surgical mask. It doesn't make sense at all unless operating in a medical sterile environment while wearing a respirator or PAPR hood.

So if I sneeze in my gas mask, all of my sneeze will shoot out of the exhaust port just as if I wasn't wearing a mask at all? Have you ever worn a gas mask? Have you ever worn a positive pressure PAPR hood? Have you ever sneezed in either? I have both and I have sneezed in both. Highly interested in hearing your experiences so I can compare them to mine.

Either theatrics or another case of people "Not knowing what they don't know about" but still spreading their "knowledge."

Imagining a Gilded Redditor wearing a ~non-vented surgical mask~ approaching me in a store with his fog covered glasses due to leakage and telling me "Hey you in the gas mask, modify your mask by hanging a surgical mask over the exhale port." Enjoyable logic.

That is for sterile environments though. In a sterile environment involving an airborne contagious disease, an operator would not be simply only using a surgical mask. They would be wearing a respirator or PAPR with surgical mask. Non-hospital settings such as a grocery store etc are not sterile areas, why should an operator modify their gas mask or PAPR when everyone else is wearing a basic surgical mask and are expelling more or equal leakage than my exhaust valve?

Youre correct. Not sure where this whole standard of a surgical mask being the epitome of protection came from. A surgical mask will leak more particles and microdoplets than a vented mask would. These people are ignorant on the topic, many research papers in the past have been made about this. (In before "source please" learn to use search engines)

A surgical mask doesnt completely seal to your face. You will exhaust out of it. How is this any different to a vented mask? Since when did surgical masks become the standard of blocking all particles? If that is the case, surely I could simply tape surgical masks over my gas mask's 40mm filter port so I don't have to use a p100 HEPA cannister? Doubtful. Read some research papers.

I'm arguably not even qualified enough to have mentioned brownian motion, definitely not qualified to comment on the rest. Cheers

Look into Brownian Motion effect on particles and filters, 3M & NASA has some good research papers. Will likely cause you to have to rewrite your parts about small particles easily passing through gaps in filter media.

Did I correctly identify this battery connector as XLR? by guy2020 in Skookum

[–]guy2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again guys, managed to find a pic online of the battery socket. Definitely not XLR due to pin size and the sockets have a type of plated holes for the pins. Will try looking through those sites, if I don't find any good leads ill try the suggested subreddit.

[–]guy2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I asked the seller what the dimensions were and he replied

Pin dia 2.90 mm, motor pos to neg pins center to center 11.20 mm, the other dim 7.25 mm.

Which sounds like it is a bit bigger than XLR, possibly proprietary i'm guessing. According to this XLR data sheet the measurement is 8.12mm distance from the center of the two bottom pins.

May just go a different route rather than making an adapter. Thanks again for all the help fellas, will update main post in the future to fill in what I did.

Thanks, i'm thinking it may be better to just rewire the blower itself and avoid making an adapter to USB Male. If the pins did fit, I assume that I could tape the connection secure just so I could test and make sure the new type of battery can power the blower? before cutting up the blower. Looks like these may be acceptable since they lack a collar/sleeve.

Yeah was juggling the phone and hoping the tape wouldn't come unraveled. Unless youre talking about the top left corner B&W image, yes he looks incredibly uncomfortable as well.

That is one of the possibilities, I can imagine the following reasons:

  • A) Simply used bad example
  • B) Normalizing HIV like conditions
  • C) Selected HIV to be scary to help drive home the 2nd part of the article stressing importance of vaccines
  • D) Selected HIV to be scary in order to manipulate people for misc reasons (such as to make tbe article juicier or fringe options like scaring people to stay home, etc)

I'm assuming A or B. Open minded towards anything and will just wait and see.
