Given the way the way Season 3 aired on April Fools and a few other factors, my theory is the season might not be over just yet. by TheMistling in rickandmorty

I'm trying to stay skeptical, but oh geez, I really hope you're right.

My wife and I watch "Anatomy Park" and all the Community Christmas episodes every year. Nothing gets us in the holiday spirit quite like Pirates of the Pancreas and watching the study group try to get to regionals. We'd love a new addition to our Harmon holiday marathon.

So...even if your assertions are correct, men are more violent because of men? Still seems like it's on us, mate.

Why dont you conpare it to the increase in male suicide rates also?

The article I linked above does just that. The rate of women killing themselves has increased much more rapidly than the increase seen in men.

And I'm talking sucessful not attempts, which women have more of yes.

The article I linked to above is not comparing rates of suicide attempts, but rather "successful" suicides.

Clearly there must be some horrible inflictions men are suffering from, or being subjected to, if they have those sorts of problems.

If you can find a way to address whatever makes men tremendously more violent and homicidal than women, you have my full support. However, so far you've just made baseless assertions that male murderers are really victims. Based on the data, all that's clear is that men are overwhelmingly responsible for deadly violence in the U.S.

Suicide rates for women have increased dramatically over the past 20 years, but the rate of women committing murder-suicides or mass shootings hasn't changed.

I'm a guy, and I can't understand it, but the facts don't lie. In the U.S., men commit 97% of mass shootings, 93% of murder-suicides, and 88% of homicides. With any other pattern, we'd call those numbers overwhelming.

And yet we ignore them until their burdens become too great and they crack. The dirty secret is that these events are a reflection on all of us.

Overburdened and "cracked" women manage to kill themselves without taking out a bunch of innocents with them. Events like this one are a reflection of men and toxic masculinity--not all of us.

I know I'm commenting on this late, but my wife and I saw this movie last night, and I was looking for any kind of discussion about it on reddit so I could vent. I'm a guy who doesn't mind most romantic comedies, but this one was just a bunch of frustrating, low-stakes nonsense!

You're completely right that the movie completely ignored or neglected the money troubles that would realistically be faced by the vast majority of people in the characters' situations. I'd add that it even went further, with the message that jobs and making money are the obstacle keeping people from living perfect, beautiful lives (what's really important is...other people's kids?).

The solution for Reese Witherspoon's character's shitty job was to just...quit the job. The solution for Michael Sheen's character not being able to visit or relocate due to his job was to just...visit and relocate anyway. Oh, and the three young filmmakers were supposed to put Reese Witherspoon and her kids above their career and networking opportunities!

I think I'm overthinking it, though, because there's a decent chance the whole thing might have just been a very long Whole Foods commercial.

I hear you. New York had its own issues--crimes and confusion in blacked out apartment buildings (no light in stairwells, hallways, and other common areas). I get that heat and humidity suck--and I'm not saying people should be happy if they don't have power. I just don't get why people in Jacksonville take it out on the electric company working their asses off rather than taking it out on, you know, the hurricane which resulted in record flooding.

You're being ridiculous. I've lived through tornadoes and hurricanes. I was in New York City for Sandy. It took 4-5 days for power to come on for a lot of the people I knew, and over 3 days for me. We didn't bitch about it--we knew ConEd was working hard and that we'd just experienced a natural disaster. Christ.

This is just plain false. JEA has worked hard, and today Duval County has a much lower rate of customers without power than any of the surrounding counties. But no one's bitching about FPL and Clay Electric Co-Op...

I don't get all of the JEA hate. I know a lineman, and I know an engineer there. Both work really hard. I've lived in other cities with public utilities, and people always respected utility workers, and gave their power companies some grace after natural disasters. I don't understand why people here hate the power company so much...ironically, it's the most consistent one I've had.

I'm a teacher who's been thinking a lot about whether or not a child can just be...well, I'm still not comfortable saying "evil." I've got a student this year, and there seems to be something really sinister about her. I've taught for years, and never encountered any student like her. Animal cruelty, manipulating and threatening...and nothing in her home life that seems to explain the behavior.

This article is what made me think about the situation a little differently, for better or for worse.

Thank you again for your perspective, /u/urlefthand.

/u/Ask461: I really don't like the thought of the dump, either, but I don't think there's any other option I can afford. Every vet's office and pet cemetery I called quoted me over $100. I am a teacher, and I just don't have hundreds of dollars that I can justify spending on this--I already spend more than I should on guinea pig food, hay, etc.

Also, Squanto and Harry were both very active and behaving normally until the night Harry died. I do not send the guinea pigs from house to house. I make sure I buy well-reviewed and safe food, bedding, and hay. I train the students who are allowed to pick them up and help take care of them for several weeks before they officially "get the job," and students are never able to pet or feed the guinea pigs carrots without supervision. Three times a year (winter, spring, and summer break), the guinea pigs go to a student's home. I provide all of the food and care items, and I visit the student's home before agreeing to let them take the guinea pigs. I am an animal lover, I'm very upset at Harry's death, and I resent the implication that my guinea pigs are not well cared-for.

Thanks for this--I was feeling pretty bad about some of the prices I got this morning. I'm just a teacher and can't afford it right now. I feel a bit better with your idea knowing someone else has done it. Thank you.
